tylenol versus Motrin?

 I am slowly weaning off Zoloft and do not want to try lyrica or Cymbalta at this time. But and this is a BIG BUT, I need relief from this pain.

when I have tried Tylenol it did absolutely nothing, but motrin did help. Now heres the dilemma, I know how toxic constant use of motrin can be, especially since I have gut issues already.

that being said I try to take it maybe once or twice a week, like yesterday when all I could do is cry the pain was so bad.

thinking of trying Gabapentin....anyone have some insight on this one?

also I have been having a slight sore throat for over a week now, and feeling worse then ususal (pain wise) could I have mono and/or is this fibro?

You might be catching a virus with the sore throat and all.

I do take gabapentin. I take it mainly at bedtime to ease the pain I suffer with in my feet at night. I'm prone to having very tender toes and can't stand the weight of the bedsheet.

It does okay for me and is a whole lot cheaper than lyrica.

I take Tylenol (though rarely) and also gabapentin. I seem to be sensitive to meds in general, so with my last refill, instead of 300mg, the doctor had it refilled for 100mg.

I like that idea, as, if things aren't 'too' bad, but I still need some relief, I just take one or two of the 100mg. The instructions on the bottle say I can take more at a time, but sometimes just a little relief (even 100mg) is all I need. Maybe you might want to consider something like this, being that gabapentin would be new to you?

I take both and I take generally 1800 mg of ibuprofen a day., I also take Pepcid AC and Misoprostol (Cytotec) to help protect my stomach from ulcers. I need that much ibuprofen because of another issue...not fibro. I do have Crohns too.

Lainey, I accent ly deleted your other post that was basically asking this same question. No one had responded so I was going to delete it but decided to cancel the deletion instead but something happened and it still deleted the post. I'm sorry.

Motrin really helps me. I dont take very much daily, only 800 mg. Make sure you use the enteric coated, it's so much better on the stomach.

I asked my DR recently about taking too much Aleeve and the risk of ulcers etc, he said NSAIDS are fine if your taking a smallish dose 1-2 times a week, but if your taking it everyday then it doesn't give your stomach time to heal and that puts the risk way up.

If you need more kick than Tylenol, maybe ask for a Tramadol Rx, it helps me out for the breakthrough pain. Tylenol also doesn't cut my pain much, mainly only good for light headaches, the Aleeve definitely works better but I had been having stomach pains so I stopped taking it for the time being.

I take 800mg of Ibuprofen 3 times a day. I also take 350mg of gabapentin 3 times a day and Soma 3 times a day. I do have Tramadol to take but most of the time, the other meds work. I also have RA and Sjogrens along with Fibro.

I can't use aleve or ibuprofen, due to Crohns. I have tried, and after a few days, everything is inflamed. I use tylenol/acetaminophen when I have a headache.

When I'm not on Celebrex I take 2 nurofen plus a night (each tablet has 200mg ibuprofen, 10mg of codine). I also take it through out the day if needed (up to 8 tablets a day). My doctor knows how much I take and is fine with it. I've never had any problems with it.

If the ibuprofen stops working, I take the Celbrex and panadine (500mg paracetamol, 10 codeine). The panadine use will vary depending on pain levels. (If that doesn't work, we just work through different/stronger pain killers until we find something that does.)

Both ibuprofen and paracetamol have side effects and risks. Ibuprofen isn't great for your stomach and kidneys, but paracetamol can be quite hard on your liver.
