Emg's and excruciating pain

Been awhile since I have posted here. Life really makes it's mark on you, doesn't it? I have had 2 emg's over the last 20 yrs....both stopped because of excruciating pain, equal to what I would imagine happens in the electric chair. I am not one to exaggerate, and thus my anger at what is ahead.

I have a new neurologist (with her own list of symptoms), who continues to insist that I have another emg to access nerve damage in my arms, which is a primary complaint at the moment. I have Fibro(diagnosed over 25 yrs ago) , lung sarcoid, cervical herniations, etc. I have a handle on fibro, but am tired of being a guinea pig for those who have no 'real' data or scientific documentation to lay their hats or opinions on regarding fibro and the various resulting changes that we occur. Just because THEY don't have patients who experience these happenings...doesn't mean it isn't real.

My body over the years has developed, as many of you have, severe chemical sensitivities to almost all medications that are supposed to 'help' us. Some reactions to meds that doctors swore would be fine..included swelling of tongue, throat.

I resent that because a doctor doesn't have any patients, or heard of any that have experienced such pain during an emg....they talk to you as if you were having some psychological problem, and not one of physical origins.

I have agreed to 'try' this test...but as I type this....I know I am going to cancel it. Why am I agreeing to a test that twice before has brought me horrible pain of which no one can explain....because doctors are not familiar with how fibromyalgia affects other issues.

Sorry for venting...I get very upset, and at times depressed when I look to those who have years of medical training for answers to conditions that they don't understand. Tired of being in pain, especially when I have handled it so well for so many years.

I had an EMG done last month because of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. It hurt so bad I warned the neurologist performing the test that I was going to cry. Took days before the pain in my arms finally settled down to a tolerable level and that's with taking pain meds and muscle relaxers. I was also bruised in spots, one bruise took almost 2 weeks to go away.

Violet- I have had the test done twice with no problem. I have heard from many that they were. Very painful. So we are all different in how we are made. Some are more senstive then others.

I have cervical problems and fibro too. It's hard to distinguish between the cervical numbness and fibro. My arms and fingers are like needle pricks most of the time. I got so tired of trying to solve the issue that I just accepted this is what it's going to be. My neck is solid metal, so I figure something always being irritated. Lol

If you feel like your having pain down both arms that can be cervical issues. I have had spinal cord compression and the EMG test not revealing it. I finally got severe pain in my arms and I hardly could lift them. It wasa MRI that showed the spinal cord compression.

Your cervical herninations can cause long term nerve damage. If you decide to have the test and it's negative, I would look at MRI also.
I am glad I had the 3 level fusion done. My neck pain in tolerable now.
