hmmm... "I have never seen this before"... Or "there is only a small % or chance that "X" will happen"
I always fall in the 2%. I am in medical journals and the hospital I go to ( Yale new haven Hospital) is a teaching hospital so I always have a full room with eager med students.
My son was born breech and it was a natural delivery. The OR was packed. I had a anaphylactic reaction to Adenosine. A medication that was given to me during a stress test. The dr said in his 25 years this had never happened! During a spinal epidural for a knee replacement the anesthesiologist punctured my dura ( the lining along your spinal cord which holds the spinal fluid) there fore I was leaking spinal fluid. The list can continue...
I have learned to speak up to Dr and let them know I often have rare reactions and am " not the norm" I specifically told my neurosurgeon this to try and prepare him. I think he thought I was exaggerating until I started to have cardiac problems during surgery to fix a herniated disc which crushed my spinal cord...but because I was proactive and warned the Dr ahead of time...he was actually prepared and did not panic when my heart was malfunctioning and was able to handle the situation and keep the other Drs on the right path... I gave my anesthesiologist a scare of a lifetime but because I had warned my surgeon and he was prepared for the " unexpected" my surgery turned out great and I am not paralyzed from the chest down as they thought I might be...
So sorry this is long winded but please be an advocate for yourself. Don't ever be afraid to speak up. Nobody knows your body the way you do...
Keep strong everyone. Through our own journeys and struggles with Fibro we can hopefully help future Fibro patients!!
