can the pain be really only be in one area

I do have pain all over, but really the problem that plagues me daily is my neck, base of skull and shoulder blades.

I had x-ray of neck and ct scan of head and all they said was that I have , and I quote, "slight arthritis on left side of neck"

well my neck feels like its in the VULCAN GRIP and its the whole back of the neck.

so can this really be fibromyalgia, since that's where my pain is the worst. other areas just ache sometimes.

I definitely have balance issues and visual issues and especially brain fog is SOOOOO bad, I feel like I am in a dream world.

But I keep questioning if this is really fibromyalgia. An RA DX with it after two exams

Hi Lainey, Fibro will give you that achey feeling allover but it also likes to pick on just certain body parts.

The arthritis can affect your neck along with fibro. Were you first diagnosed with RA first? It isn't uncommon for those with autoimmune diseases to also have fibro. Testing is usually done for the connective tissue diseases because of the overlap of some symptoms. For fibro, a check of the soft tissue pressue points are usually done in all four quandrants of the body above and below the waist.

Check over the list of fibro symptoms in fibro 101 and you will probably see many symptoms that you can identify with.

How is your posture? If you slouch, it not only hurts your lower back, but also the muscles in your neck and shoulders. It puts pressure on the lower neck, which can tense up.

Even though I was found to have most of the pressure points (all over) almost all of my pain is on my left side, and it feels like it stems from two areas - my sacroiliac and my neck/shoulder (when they are aggravated, it travels up/down.) It's been this way for over 20 years.

But, like you, I also have the fog, balance, visual, sensitivity, and so many other issues...so Fibro fits for me.

I have the same pain problems. Hurts all over but mostly in my neck and shoulders. I find that the famous "bed buddy" helps a lot with that. All the heat goes to a much needed area.

I had that for months right in base of skull - it killed me. Now completely gone...its like I made it up! currently in my arms and legs. Its horrid because you don't know whether its something else or fibro playing up...I wish we had a magic scanner where we can scan over the problem parts of our body to check its not something else

I have arthritis in my neck along with herniated disks and I know that is the cause of the pain in my neck and shoulders that I have been having for a month now. I also know that Fibro can cause neck pain. It's really hard to say what is causing your pain as it could be the arthritis or Fibro. I agree with Getting by, I just got a Bed Buddy and it is my best friend. I have the one that drapes over the neck and shoulders and it is heaven. You should give it a try.

I had pains like that too and I massages the base of my skull and my neck. You might even feel a couple of knots on each side of your spinal column at the base of your neck. If so, they will be tender. Press and massage these and do this several times a day until they have gone away.

I used trigger point therapy for my shoulders and that helped a lot, too.

Posture is very important. We tend to hunch over but make a concerted effort to stand up straight with your shoulders back. It really does help eventually.
