I, too, have plantar fasciitis. I get horrible flares (pain, especially nerve pain) in my feet, especially in the Fall/early Winter. I take Neurontin and occasionally, Flexeril.
I massage my feet after soaking them in Epsom salts and try to keep them warm at all times. I sometimes layer thin socks, which helps, and wear soft 'footies' to bed.
For some odd reason, it sometimes helps to change shoes throughout the day.
Those sore muscle pain creams can help sometimes, too.
What has also helped are soft insoles (Plantar Fasciitis Women's Orthotic Inserts) in my shoes--both the full length 'liner' type (for example, the Odor Eaters type) and the soft arch supports. Wal-Mart has both of these.
I also buy the stretchy bands (PediFix Visco-Gel Arch Wrap) and wear them around my feet. At first they felt too tight, but I pulled them every time I put them on, and now they're about right and support the bottom of my feet quite well. I believe Wal-Mart has those, too. (Can you tell I shop at Wal-mart?)
Just a few tips. These have worked for me, though I think the nerves in the feet play a part, too, so the pain can some and go. I had a horrible flare starting last September that lasted until December! Wishing you better days ahead!
