Low grade fever for 2 1/2 weeks

Hi all,

I have had a low grade fever (38.3C or 101F) since the New Year. My GP thought it was the flu at first because of the very bad pain I experienced all over at the onset. I have also had pretty bad diarrhoea and have been feeling very unwell generally along with the fever. I have just had a chest x-ray along with blood, stool and urine tests. I’m awaiting the results. Have any of you experienced this kind of thing? I have RA but it's not in a flare-up at the moment.

Hi Neena,

Was your doctor going to do any anti-body testing? People with lupus can have a low grade fever without having any obvious infectious cause. The fever is related to inflammation. An elevated sed rate would probably be found. I have lupus along with RA. Hang in there...we are here for you!

I am in the midst of a flare up and have had a fever on and off. A lot of times when my fatigue starts I have a low grade fever. This time seems worse. The flare is worse also. I honestly cant tell you what its from cause Ive had all kind of diagnoses thrown at me throughout the years but it isnt anything new. Doesnt seems like a flu.

As I state in another thread, if you have any of the 'dormant' herpes viruses, they like to come out and play with Fibro patients. This means that you can get chicken pox without the actual pox. Truly. I would have your rheumie order blood tests for herpes viruses ASAP. I have cyclo (a herpes virus) and it just loves playin with my health.

Other than that, ya it sounds like Lyme or lupus. :( I hope you feel better and found out what is going on, very soon!!!

Oh! And try and stay warm so that your body has the chance to fight them. Replicate a fever.

Thanks for your suggestions. I'm sorry I didn't respond sooner. Lupus and Lyme disease were both ruled out. The fever and runs have both gone now thank goodness. Both disappeared on the same day. We never figured out what was happening. The the 'dormant' herpes viruses' idea is interesting. I'll mention it to my Doc.

Funnily enough when the 'Flu' went the RA and Fibro got much worse. confused What can I say? I don't think the temp was related to RA. I guess I will never know. Thanks for your help anyway. Neenaa
