Need a good Fibromyalgia Dr in Pgh willing to treat with Opoids

Hi Everyone,

  I just found this group/website and really hoping that someone can help me. I was diagnosed with Fibromyaligia/CFS/Extreme Anxiety, Depression (and panic attacks).

 

  I was originally diagnosed thru a Rheumy about 9 years ago ,but didn't really care for her 'bed side manner' so for the past 6 years have been treated by my PCP.  A long story short, my PCP left the area practice (with no forwarding information to be able to contact her).

 

  As most are probably familiar, I am on some heavy duty medications. Here is a list of what I am currently on:  Gabapentin 300mg 3x day, Amitriptylin 75mg a bedtime, Hydroxyzine 25mg 2x day, Alprazalam (xanax) .5mg 3x day, Hydrocodone 10/325 3x day, Ibuprofen 800mg 3x day and Trazadone 100mg a bedtime.......I am hoping to find another Dr that would be willing to keep me on the regimen that I am currently on.

 

  To make matters worse--I do NOT have medical insurance so I am a self pay patient. Most that I have called do not want to take on a new patient that is chronic pain/illness and who does not have insurance.

 

 If anyone has any suggestions on where I can go for help please let me know. I appreciate your help and your feedback.

Welcome to the fibromyalgia forum.

You would have to call around and find a doctor that treats fibromyalgia, and ask if they will keep you on the same pain regimen. That is going to be time consuming to say the least. But it will be worth it. It is hard when you have to change doctors.

I would say calling or looking on the internet would be your best bet. Unless you get lucky and find one sooner. I would be starting to look as soon as possible.

When you get a chance, check out the first thread on the forum called "fibro 101". It is a very informative thread. I think you will find it interesting.

I hope you can find a doctor. I guess I am not much help. I didn't tell you anything that you didn't already know. I basically wanted to welcome you to the forum. Keep us posted on how things go.

Hi, and welcome! I'm assuming that Pgh means Pittsburgh. In Fibro 101...the first thread on the forum that Karen directed you to....there is a link about finding a fibro doctor. open that link, click on Pennsylvania and the doctors info shows up. There are a couple in the Pittsburgh area. Do read Fibro 101 when you get a chance. It's jammed full of good info about fibro and you will learn a lot there.

I don't know many doctors willing to take on a new patient that don't have insurance because most doctors want to check you out themselves, run their own tests, and prescribe medications THEY think will help...especially when it comes to narcotics. They are clamping down on this.

You might find you don't need narcotics to get in control of your pain! My pain was off the charts and I was given Vicodin and it didn't touch the pain. But by taking ibuprofen with food (600 mg up to four times a day), Tylenol, and a muscle relaxer called Robaxin, my pain is now in very good control. (The Robaxin is a generic now called Methocarbomol and is very inexpensive, too.) I also use magnesium malate and vitamin D3...deficiencies in these cause more pain and fatigue. There are links in Fibro 101 about these supplements and how they work in the body.

I wish I could be more help. You do have a difficult situation. I know health insurance is expensive but it is well worth it if you can afford it...especially when you have chronic illnesses. I'm on social security now and 1/3 of my check goes for my health insurance coverage. It's hard, but it's a necessity for me.
