How to cope with judgement?

I really have had a rough time with this FMS as I'm sure many of you have. I try not to complain and deal with it. Many people in my life don't understand I have been a accused of being crazy by my friends and what little family I have. I am having a bad day today, my best friend of several years called me asking what was wrong and I told her I'm trying to except pain as a part of my everyday life. She said to me it's all in your head, maybe.

That passed me off because everyone in my life besides my husband thinks I'm lazy or crazy. However I know my pain is real.

How do you guys refrain from being depressed by your pain? How do you handle those who don't believe in your condition?

No one will fully understand our situation unless they have this.
I've tried to explain this to my family but they just look sad at me.
Anyone outside my immediate family I just say I feel bad today and leave it at that.

Yes, the chronic pain does tend to bring you down. I see a therapist who specializes in chronic pain patients. She's wonderful and has slowly pulled me out of a pit of self-pity. I also attend a monthly group therapy of chronic illness patients and come here daily.

Yes I agree, I was so active an don't generally happy person. In a sense you have to learn to live life different ly. I was going to a therapist after one session my insurance company has given me a lot of trouble so it's inactive until they get it situated.

I go to one sponsored by United Way. They go by income on cost to see therapists.

Many areas also have Mental health Associations that accept payment based on income.

It can really help to strengthen your sense of who you are, and how you can make peace with the condition.

I rarely discuss my fibromyalgia with anybody except the doctors and here on the forum. People just don't seem to understand that you can experience pain on a daily basis. And survive...

I am sorry your friend said it was in your head. Well it is in our heads and all over our bodies.

I just find not talking about it makes it easier to cope with.

Mizz, people just don't understand. I go through the same thing with some church friends. I hear if you only give it to God you won't need those meds or Dr's anymore. So I understand how you feel when feeling judge. I have got better letting it roll off my back. Therapy work can help with fibro. Maybe you can look into and see if your city has some free grannts for mental health therapy. I was able to get one in my town and it came with free meds, therapist, psych Dr. and social worker. You might be amazed what's out there.

MizzFabulosa, I too am new here but have found tons of info and support.
I had a harder time myself accepting that I had Fibro (15+yrs now). I was fortunate to never be sick or take meds until my mid-late 30's and didn't want to. I thought it was all in my head. Waking up every day feeling like I was in a burlap bag & beat to He## with a baseball bat all night long & then days started getting that bad too.
I also at first mentioned having Fibro to some family & friends & got backlash now, I don't tell anyone.
Best advice I could give you:
#1 RULE - TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF FIRST!
SCR#W THE REST!

It's hard enough dealing with Fibro every day and until someone walks in our shoes, they shouldn't judge.
