Hi. This next paragraph is a repeat post for me:
There are now at least 5 small fibro studies finding small fiber neuropathies (or using the term polyneuropathies). This has information fibro patients perhaps ought to be aware of:

I have had these odd sensations also. But for the most part it seems like over the years my body heals some issues, and then sometimes the oddities reoccur. Even so, it is perhaps worthwhile to think about
"why" they happen, and that's the message I took from the studies of small fiber neuropathies in fibromyalgia, which is info I repeated in the link above. If I had good insurance I would like to investigate why these things happen for me, now that I've reread the study authors' remarks.
The good side of this is that in the peripheral nervous system there are something called schwann cells. They exhist at a pretty high ratio to nerve cells, (1:1?) which is fortunate because that improves the odds for them accomplishing their goal of making repairs to demyelinated nerve axons. Myelin is an insulation on the branches (axons) of the nerves that send nerve signals to each other. Better myelin coverage, better nerve signal conduction. But not alll nerve fibers are myelinated in the first place.
Its been about
20 years since I read about
them, but as I recall the peripheral nerve cells have a better ratio of schwann cells to nerve cells, so repairs may happen faster in the peripheral nervous system. In the Central Nervous sytem, the repair cells, called olygodendrocytes, are fewer, but I think (reliable memory?) that oligodendrocytes can cover more cells at once. Just don't quote me, it's been 20 years since I read about
them.
