Another fall...another flare :(

Well it has been a crazy week.!!!

As some of you may know I started a new job at the beginning of the school year. I quit my last job at the end of June and had the sumner off. It was wonderful to have the summer off. My fibro had been in over drive due to the stress at my last job so theg summer was a welcome relief.
I am now a para educator in an elementary school. I work with children with emotional, mental and physical disabilities. My hours are 9-3:30 which includes 1/2 unpaid lunch and a 1/2 paid break. I have been trying for years to get into the school systems, but especially since I was diagnosed w fibro I can no longer work a 40-50 an hour week job.

Unfortunately my new job is only contracted for a year while someone is on medical leave. My hope is now that I am in the system it will be easier to get other jobs offered in the school system. A few para educators will be retiring this year so I am keeping my fingers crossed I will get hired for a permanent job next school year....anyway this leads me to the point of my posts....

My new employer does not know I have fibro and I would like to keep it that way. When my friend passed away I did not have to take anytime off from work. Last Sunday night my bad knee gave out and I fell down the stairs. :( besides twisting my knee I was fine, so I thought, besides a few aches and pain. I missed work on Monday because the pain in my knee was too bad. I went to work Tuesday and Wednesday with a knee brace. Pain was still pretty bad, but wanted to make the effort at work.

I wanted to prove that I will not be out unless it Is absolutely unavoidable. I'm hoping I won't have a flare that keeps me home. We had Thursday and Friday off so I thought I would rest up. I actually slept most of Friday and Saturday...guess I am in a flare..

Thursday I did a lot of house work and at the end of the day my right foot ( same as my knee) was really starting to hurt and it wasn't Fibro. I went to the dr on Friday and I fractured my foot, as well, in the fall earlier in the week!! Know it is a walking cast/boot for 2 weeks. I will not miss work but boy are they going to be surprised!

I emailed my teachers so they wouldn't be surprised but to also let the know I will be able to do my job! Hoping they aren't second guessing me due to my injuries???

Praying my fibro flare will be minimal and I can rest when I get home from work!]

Yikes, that is terrible news. I am so glad you did not seriously break any bones or do anymore harm than what happened. You are going to have that all over ache from just the trauma of it all. That will eventually subside though. Your poor knee, You have had so much work done on it. That has to be as difficult to deal with as fibro I would imagine. However, look at you. YOU KEEP GOING like that energizer bunny!!!! I really admire your strength and determination!!!

I can not imagine that they will second guess you due to your injury. That would be crazy on their part. If anything they should think, "Wow we have a keeper here and when so and so retires at the end of the year we should bring her on" at least that is how I see it as a employer.

I do hope everything heals up as quickly as possible and I also hope that you get into the system by showing you are dependable no matter what.

Ouch! I hope the pain eases up quickly.

As a former teacher they do love people who limit their sick days.

Sorry to hear about your fall! I know the timing sucks, but accidents happen. So try not to be too hard on yourself, and sure hope the school will appreciate your commitment. Lets us know how you are doing !

So glad you got into the school system. I am sorry to hear about your fall. Hopefully it will heal quickly. I can understand your feeling about trying not to call in. I hope you have a great school year. I know working with special needs kids can be rewarding but challenging too. My daughter is in college working toward a degree in special needs teacher. Anchorage was looking for 4 special needs teacher this year. They said they might have to look at the lower 48 for some that might want to relocate. Hey, Do you want to move to Alaska? Lol

Oh, WOW! You were walking on a fractured foot? Ouch! I'm glad that was discovered before any more damage was done. Being at work can help you forget your pain somewhat since you'll be busy focusing on other things. I'm sure they know what a dependable person you are and that is good for you, too.

I hope today will be a good one at school.

Good idea not to mention the fibro. Go to school whenever you possibly can. Expect to spend your evenings and weekends in recovery mode, at least for most of them!
I am sorry that you have to deal with this injury, which will wipe you out even more. But you sound very determined to keep pace as much as possible, much like myself.
We can cheer each other along through the school year. The good thing is that we have weeks off right when you think you cannot do it another day…it is a marvelous schedule.

Slept the weekend away. My son and husband couldn't believe it when I would fall asleep midsentence!
I made it to work today and will continue to do so. <3 like u said I come home rest, elevate and ice my knee and ankle.
My husband and son have been wonderful doing everything around the house!
