Hey everyone, I been browsing around here and I was so happy to see all the support and advice! It's what made me sign up! I've had Fibro for two years now and chronic back pain for about
9 years. I know the exact week my "normal" back pain changed to a different pain I couldn't handle. It was an emotional stressor and my body turned on me at 25 years old. I was fortune my dx didn't take long three months to be exact and my chiropractor caught it and my primary did the official dx. Well now that we have that out of the way let me say I found this fibro family bc I was looking for support and help. Without a regular doctor to help me (only my pain doc from my back and they just want to shove more meds down my throat) I'm looking for tips and tricks to kick fibro'a butt! My husband and I want to have a baby soon so I have to manage my pain without serious medication. I started Mag Malte yesterday so we will see. I know I need to exercise and eat better. Any other tips would be helpful. I do have one questions has anyone had any success with a drastic change in diet like eating Paleo only or something. It is so hard to eat properly when I'm in pain all the time all I want to do is eat my feelings lol thanks for the help and I'm so happy I found you guys!

Hi, Des, and welcome! I'm glad you found us too. We have wonderful members who love to help one another and, as a bonus, we really do care about
each other. I think you will like it here.
I'm glad to see you are trying magnesium malate. This has helped me quite a bit and it's also helped others on this forum. Another supplement you might want to try is vitamin D3. If you are deficient in this, it can cause more pain. I live in sunny Florida but was deficient in Vitamin D because I always wear sunscreen. A simple blood test can tell if you are deficient. Normal starts at 30 but I'm now in the 50's and feel good.
I also take ibuprofen with food, Tylenol, and a muscle relaxer called Robaxin that has made a significant difference in my pain. I only take half of what was prescribed so I don't have side effects. Of course, you should talk to your doctor first...especially since you want to start a family. Some medications are safe during pregnancy and your gynecologist would know which ones are safe.
Various diets never helped me. Even when I tried to lose weight, diets didn't work. But we all know what we should be eating to have a healthy diet and that's what I try to do. I eat a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables, lean meats, and my main drink is water...and I drink a lot of it.
When you exercise, do gentle exercises like walking, swimming, or yoga. Very few of us can go to a gym and exercise. They would be carrying me out on a stretcher if I tried that.
Be sure to read Fibro 101...the first thread on the forum. There are links to good info about
fibro and you will learn a lot there. There are links about
vitamin D3 and also magnesium malate and how these work in your body. All of Fibro 101 is good so do read it.
I'm looking forward to getting to know you better. Don't hesitate to ask questions because we are here to help you. Hope to hear more from you soon.

3 years ago (to the date) I started a MAJOR diet overhaul. I say I'm closer to Paleo than anything, but I'm not that either. I'm completely gluten free, and greatly limit all processed foods, grains, dairy, and eggs. I had a food sensitivity panel run and also did an elimination diet to determine that I was sensitive to gluten, eggs, whey, dairy, & yeast. Taking all of those out has helped a lot. What also makes a difference is what I've replaced those foods with - real whole food, fresh juice, and lots of supplements. That's what works for me, obviously YMMV, but it might be worth doing an elimination diet to see what foods might be aggravating your symptoms. I hope you find something that helps so that you can make your dreams come true.

Welcome super nurse ! Yes, I am glad you found this forum. I can really say this forum gave my life back to me. I learned so much here to the point my health turned a 360 to the best. It didn't happen over night but now I feel I have good control over my fibro. I still have pain daily but manageable. Hopefully you can find what works for you. I wish there was one treatment that fits all but of course we are all different in our needs. I had to go through a trial and error method. It took some time, but I have got what works for me. I take calcium, magnesium, vitamin D, remron, subutex limit stress, heat, exercise and eat healthy.
I hope we see you around the forum some more. The more input we put in the better the knowledge gets on fibro. I have found out the more simple I keep my treatment plan the better I feel. I have poor results when taking too many drugs for fibro. It took years to figure this out.
See you around the forum!

Hi, Des. Glad you found this forum.
As far as diet, yes, beyond the basics (generally eating healthfully) it seems no one kind of diet works for all Fibromites. We limit food and diet discussions to one thread, because otherwise they tend to take over. I'll bump it back up to the top of the list so you can find it more easily.
I can relate to your feeling like your body "turned on" you....not a good feeling! There is a grieving period we go through after being diagnosed with Fibro, no doubt about
it...the flip side of the coin being the relief of knowing at least it's something real, with a name, that's not fatal!
Be gentle with yourself. I didn't know Fibro existed 30 years ago (that's when I first noticed my body turning on me) and I kept pushing myself, trying to do Nautilus machines and everything else I'd always done. My pain just kept getting worse, and I was finally diagnosed about
7 years later.
I would have done things differently if I'd known what I was up against, not been so hard-core...it doesn't help, and can really fire up the pain and other goodies. Of course, exactly what that means is different for each person. There's a lot of trial and error, and then it keeps changing, too. Just likes to keep us on our toes, I suppose.
I hope you'll keep posting, and it's good to have you aboard!
