I am not starting the New Year very well! I have already been to a few Dr's and more to come. I wanted to just be healthy and not have to focus on my poor health. I first started losing lost of hair for several months thought it might be from hormone loss. It wasn't but my thyroid was very low again. Then my cholesterol jump way up there again. Then I felt like I was having seizures in my sleep. Then I would wake up feeling like my brain was still not right. So I increased my seizure med till my appointment comes up. It stop those problems for now. Then my colon has been given me some pain. So when other things settle maybe I will do a colonoscopy. I have put it off for years and I really need to do it.

I see my regular Dr. and she doesn't want to write the script or hormone tablets. She wants me too see a GYN. There is no need for that. I hate to have another Dr. On my list.

So by the end of February I will have seen 6 Dr's not including 2 blood draws for my blood thinners. I am only 51 years old and it sounds like I am 80! I am just a little frustrated with health issues lately. I guess it could be worse and at least most of it's fixable.

Angel, sometimes I feel like going to doctor appointments is my social life. I have an Internist, rheumatologist, gastroenterologist, dermatologist, gynecologist, and an opthalmologist on my list of doctors that I see regularly. When I'm doing well I don't have to see them that often and I do feel better for seeing them. I've gotten the help I need and am doing quite well right now because of their help.

If I recall correctly, you start to have symptoms but put off seeing a doctor until you can't stand it anymore. Then you see the doctor, get help, and feel better. Am I right? Don't put off tests that you should be having. When you put things off, it's on your mind and a source of worry which causes more pain and problems.

The yearly tests I hate are the Pap test and the mammogram. I'm extremely modest and these are the only tests that I have to take my clothes off. tongue But I do it to stay as healthy as possible. I'm 67 now and most my age don't get the Pap tests but you can still get cervical cancer so I swallow my pride and do it.

I did have one colonoscopy before I ended up having to have my colon removed. For me it was such a neat experience! The prep was the worst part of the deal. For the colonoscopy they gave me something to totally relax me and I didn't care what they did. My modesty went right out the window. turn I wanted to be awake but I think you can be asleep, too. Since I was awake I could watch the procedure on a TV monitor and see the inside of my colon as the scope was moving and even watched biopsies that were taken. It didn't hurt at all and I was totally fascinated by this procedure. I'm telling you this so perhaps you won't be frightened. I do think you can be asleep if you wish but I requested to be awake.

So, do what you need to to start feeling better again. We seem to go through these periods in life and just have to do it and move on. I started with all my medical problems when I was 30 years old so I do understand where you are coming from. This week I get blood work done and next week is an appointment with my Internist and I'm due to schedule appointments with my rheumy and dermatologist. But summer is coming and I want to be in the best shape possible for my gardening and swimming. You love the summer too so take care of yourself so you will be feeling better to enjoy that time of year.

Uggghhh. I've had one of those years too. In the past 12 months, I have had two surgeries, two biopsies, a colonoscopy, and heart tests. I am facing another surgery in the next few months to repair some damage from a previous one. I'm also having a new issue that has cropped up that I guess I'm going to have to have checked out too. I am in my forties and have been having health issues since my teens. It does get really frustrating sometimes. But I've had to stop living waiting for things to get better and just start living with things as they are. Otherwise, I will just be wishing the majority of my life away. Instead of looking too far out at all of the icky things you have to do, try just focusing on one day at a time. Today you may have to do something unpleasant. But tomorrow may be peaceful or enjoyable. But at the same time, you feel what you feel. There is no shame in feeling frustrated, mad, fed up, etc.

I've had two colonoscopies and have had to do additional bowel preps for surgeries. It isn't horrible, just inconvenient and a bit unpleasant. If you need any tips when the time comes, feel free to ask. The actual colonoscopy is a breeze.

Understand off to rocky start , sorry to hear..

I blow drs visits out of perspective.no one likes to go right?

Having a bit of a flare right now, and tonight a crown came off..i dislike going to the dentist even more than the dr .i think.

I think its a nerve thing , once i am at an appointment i am fine. I have a thing about taking time for them : )

Hope it all goes well..and spring is much better....

Dear Angel:

I am not in the U.S. but still wish there was a one stop place to get all your Medical needs from. I, too, must see different Doctors. Doctors all have their own specialties. It is my Family Physician or Nurse Practitioner that decides what Specialists I need to see.

I have had two colonoscopies and endoscopies and sigmoidoscopies. I was able to watch some but the last colonoscopy I fell asleep. I wanted to watch but was so tired. It is the prep for the colonoscopy that is horrible. The second one was harder as I had chronic head pain to deal with and being in the washroom for hours was hard. At the end of drinking that horrible stuff I just bring it to the washroom until it is finished.

We all have many things going on inside us and Fibromyalgia just compounds it all. I no longer have enough words to describe the headaches I get. Sometimes mine start up in my sleep. It may be rebound headaches from meds but I am not sure.

I tried Topamax to stop my head pain but it just caused additional pain. I know it is not good having head problems.

Hopefully, this is just a little bump in the road and your new year will actually turn out the way you want, healthy and focused on other things!

I'm sorry to hear that your year is starting off so bad and hope you & Dr's can get you some relief soon.
I don't feel like my year is starting good either, my 8 year old Granddaughter was diagnosed with Epilepsy and I was in car accident yesterday - my fault - car slid on ice while I was standing on brakes into another car that stopped on corner in work parking lot. And flares/migraines are terrible due to the weather changing so frequently and 20-30 + degrees seeming every 2-3 days.
I keep telling myself there's others that have it worse and if the year is starting out like crap it can only get better...... Trying the Positive Thinking!!!
As everyone prior stated - colonoscopy is no problem, it's the darned prep before hand. I've had so many of these to count (10-15) and it seems like every prep has been different (Same Dr.???). I've also been awake - twilight - and watched them... pretty creepy & cool!
