I am so sorry to hear what you are dealing with. I have been there with a fairly difficult past. It isn't something I talk about, but it does involve some fairly violent items. I currently see a therapist for assistance with managing my pain, but have seen them for issues related to family tragedy before that.
I personally think there is something to be said for having someone neutral to vent to and who can assist you with being a grounding point. We have enough to deal with. Every time something else happens, it adds to the pile.
There is another thread on the forums about it. I'm terrible with setting up links right now, but several people shared their opinions on it. It might give you some other thoughts on the subject.
