I have had sleep difficulties for a long time. When working if I had a lot of stress I would have insomnia. Oddly, the day after a night of no sleep I could be very productive. Luckily I did not have insomnia for two days running. I, too, wake up in the night. Sometimes around 2 and sometimes around 4. I get up and go to the washroom and go back to sleep. I have also walked in my sleep. It is not good as I have hurt myself walking into walls and had a bad fall.
I attended a sleep lab. I only slept for about
3 hours. Had a hard time with all the wires and had an A/C blowing into my head. I was told also that I stop breathing some but did not yet require the machine to help with breathing. The Doctor said that sleeping pills would make the matter worse for me. I tried 5-HTP and Melatonin. I stopped using it as I am now on Nortriptyline. Nortriptyline eventually puts me into a deep sleep. I have a hard time falling asleep. Often it is due to pain. I sometimes get up and go downstairs to have a glass of almond milk with some honey. I then can fall asleep.
I have read that the waking up is a hormonal problem. There is a hormone that wants you to stay awake when all you want to do is sleep.
I am not working but when I did I would have times where I would be nodding off at work. We are not well so it does stand to reason. I had a boss that had blood infections and would fall into a deep sleep sometimes.
A sleep Doctor may be able to offer suggestions for insomnia and snoring. My Husband is quite a snorer. I had a time when I was snoring and it was because I had a blockage. When I released what my Doctor said might have been a ball of dried mucous the snoring stopped. Snoring really bothers me but my Husband can sleep while snoring.
