Neurologist Laughed At Me For Saying I Had Fibro

Had a bit of a rough day today. I had a possible seizure a while ago so I made an appointment with a neurologist my insurance company said I could go to. I saw after I made the appointment that he had a lot of negative reviews,but went ahead with it anyway. What a mistake. He asked what I did for a living. I said I was on disability for fibro and he laughed in my face. Then he proceeded to tell me it was all anxiety and the seizure was probably just a panic attack. All I needed to do was go back to work so I wouldn't focus on any pain and I'd be better miraculously. He wanted to do tests too though which I told him I had already had 3 times before...but oh no those three times just were not good enough for him. This jerk even said that everything will be fine because....I am PRETTY... That's it guys fibro is cured all we need is fat middle aged men to think we are pretty and boom healed. Thank goodness. Ugh...I am going to get a different one if I bother at all at this point

I hope you report him. He shouldn't be in practice. You just don't treat ANYONE that way!

Sounds like a nut job......oh yes love the just stop thinking about it..ummm well i would except at times it all feels broken..

Wow he def has issues, my daughter saw one like that.. And later we learned he had a rep for high drama diagnoses...just what we need

I'm sitting here steaming and gasping as I read your post. This is a family-friendly forum so I won't say what really occurs to me! Sorry you had to go through this!! I didn't know you had a possible seizure, but then I've been kind of out of the loop around here lately. My daughter has grand mal seizures, which are under control with meds and very lmited alcohol consumption, but you can bet it's never far from my mind...so I feel for you.

Wow. To be dismissed like that after such a scare, by the very person you've come to for help. I hope you do report him. But please don't give up on finding a good doctor.

I've been to some real idiots myself. Like my spine surgeon who I recently went back to after almost 3 years to get more insight on my continuing pain: "Your back is like roadkill. Move to Tahiti. No more housework ever. You're a princess on the outside, roadkill on the inside." Then he proceeded to tell me the entire plot of "Frozen," and to send a business partner in to push his $6000 stem-cell injections. Bye bye.

Or the one who asked, first thing out of his mouth, way back when I hadn't a clue about Fibro - "Do you have any sexual disfunction?"

And then the guy who said, "All your tests are normal. So I think your friends probably have the same symptoms you do, they just don't think there's anything wrong with them."

Another sensitivity king suggested I have my husband take me out for Mexican food (it would clear my sinuses and so I'd be able to think better.)

I finally found a true-blue good doctor, who spent 2 hours with me on my first appointment. Just the other day he spent another good 45, going over my meds and pains and what research shows about this and that....I feel so lucky to know he's got my back.

Thanks everyone, it helps to share this with people who've been there and understand. I let him get me really upset,but you guys help to keep me grounded a lot. I am going to report him and have my family doctor who I really like suggest a new one this time. I can see how this guy in his own neanderthal way was trying to help,but you just don't laugh at someone who says they are disabled there is no excuse for it. I am not too worried about the seizure event as it's been a long time now and it hasn't happened again, but I'll still get it checked just in case.
