Hello, I'm new to this site. My Dr gave me methylpred for my inner ear infection and it seems to be helping the pain of my Fibromyalgia. I read some posts that say corticosteroids don't help fibromyalgia but I am not so sure about that. Could it be possible that fibromyalgia is not a correct diagnosis for my fibromyalgia symptoms? My body has not felt this good in 8 years! Nothing hurts right now and I just started taking the methylpred yesterday after lunch. What say you? Thank you.

Hi, Cupcake, and welcome! Steroids usually don't help fibro because steroids are used for inflammation and fibro is not considered an inflammatory illness. I had to be on steroids years ago and it helped with my pain but I also have several inflammatory illnesses going on. So maybe you have fibro and something else going on.

Did you have other illnesses ruled out before you were given the diagnosis of fibromyalgia? Things like lupus and Lyme disease need to be ruled out because they have many of the same symptoms as fibromyalgia. There isn't a good test for fibro yet so these are usually ruled out first before a diagnosis is given.

Here is a good link all about fibromyalgia. In it it basically says fibro isn't an inflammatory illness and also, under what medications are given, you won't find steroids. I hope this helps you.
