Whooping cough vaccine

We are having our first grandchild in a few months. My DIL wants us to get the vaccine. I got my flu shot yesterday and was up all night with major flare and sore arm which is what usually happens. I also had a huge reaction to the pneumonia vaccine a few years ago. Anybody have experience with the whooping cough vaccine. I know it's best for the baby but I am a little nervous about another reaction.

Puppylover, you probably had the vaccine as a child. I think you are around my age (69) and I had the vaccine. The vaccine was give starting around 1945. So you probably are fine. If you have a fever or feel sick. Just don't go around the baby until you are better.

You probably have had tetanus shots throughout your life and pertussis (whooping cough) and diphtheria protection are in these shots I think. Here are two links about the tetanus shots and it looks like pertussis is in them so you might not need to get anything but a tetanus shot...if you haven't had on in ten years. Be sure to ask your doctor about this.

Thanks Sherrine. I did have vaccines aa a child and am up to date on my tetanus. I think all the advertisements on tv have my DIL worried. I am so happy to finally be a gramma! At almost 71 I thought it was never going to happen.

That's wonderful and I'm jealous. I still don't have grandchildren and probably won't now either. 😩

Hi!
I just became a grandma too for the first time this past summer. It is a joy!
I got the diphtheria,tetanus, diphtheria (dtap) shot last year. My doc recommmended it even without knowing about our new family member.
My kids' OB also told them to make sure all the grandparents had it.
I just would want to be as careful as possible around the new little one.
