I have about 30/50 of the symptoms on you forum symptom list (101 thread) and am thinking I have this horrific disease.
I talked to my family doctor (love him, he's wonderful) and he wants to send me to an ra doctor who also knows about fibro ... is this a good direction to take? I'm sure I don't have RA.

Hi, Ronda, and welcome! Your doctor gave you great advice! Many here have been diagnosed with fibro by a rheumatologist. Be sure to get a board certified doctor who believes in Fibro. There are still some doctors out there in the Dark Ages when it comes to this illness. They should do tests to rule out other illnesses that have many of the same symptoms as fibro...things like lupus and Lyme disease.

I personally don't think fibro is a "horrific disease". I can think of many other illnesses that are far worse than fibro. Besides, if you have fibro, you can find things to help you get in control of your pain and live a full and enjoyable life in spite of this illness. I've had fibro for 30 years and have had pain all of those years but it has become more of a "background noise" because I have found what works best for me. I have raised three children, traveled a lot, and just generally have enjoyed my life so far. Sure, I've had many bad times with this illness but I've always been able to get back in control again. You will find many ideas and tips on this forum that can help you.

I use ibuprofen with food, Tylenol, magnesium malate, vitamin D3, and a muscle relaxer called Robaxin that has made a significant difference in my pain. What works for one with fibro doesn't necessarily work for another. It's more a trial and error type thing but you will get many ideas on this forum. I walk daily as a gentle form of exercise, do Trigger Point Therapy on myself, get a gentle massage once a month, and I pace myself when doing things. You have to keep moving with fibro. If you sit or lay too much, you will be stiff as a board and have more pain. All of the above has helped me live a full and enjoyable life in spite of this illness. A positive attitude has helped me quite a bit too.

Be sure to read Fibro 101.. the first thread on the forum. There are links to good info about fibro and you will learn a lot there.

Sounds like a good plan,

You can feel better.. I often express it that , my dr.. helps me about 50 per cent..mostly cause I am medication sensitive, and self help measures help a lot..

Stretching our muscles is super important, cause pain issues makes us tense up..which only increases pain..

It's a nice forum

So many symptoms can be overwhelming ,

But the rheumatologist can rule out other things, and help find what works for you...

Its a bit of trial and error, as we can respond differently.

Its important to know you can feel better.
