Medical insurance for seniors---suggestions?

I'm on Medicare. I have Medicare Part A, which covers hospitalizations, Medicare Part B, which covers doctors, and Medicare Part D which is a prescription drug plan. I use Silver script as my Part D drug plan.

Because Medicare only covers 80% of the medical bill, I have purchased Medicare Part F. Part F covers whatever Medicare doesn't pay. I have no deductibles or copays because I have Part F but it is very expensive...$184 a month. It's tough to pay that but I've been hospitalized 8 times in the 20 years I've been in Florida. So it has paid for itself. It's nice to know I can see any doctor and go to any hospital throughout the United States and I need no referrals to do that. Plus, I've been hospitalized and didn't have to pay a cent. It's all covered under Medicare and Part F. I get my Part F through AARP which uses United Healthcare. I just have to pay the price of Part F and of course Medicare Part B and D. I have those two taken out of my social security check.

If you can't do that, Medicare has plans called advantage plans that include doctors, medication, and a few extra things but if your doctor or hospital isn't in the plan you have to change doctors. Sometimes your doctor is in the plan one your but not the next year. That's another reason I went with what I have now. Some of these plans are better than others and some are less expensive but you get what you pay for.

My relatives Medicare Part C, which is an advantage plan that was very good. I priced it and what I'm doing was better and not as expensive! So do check prices and coverages.

No matter how you look at it, Healthcare is expensive but I don't worry about getting sick because I'm totally covered doing what I'm doing. Hope this helps you.

I have never done this personally, but some people will get an insurance broker & have this person help explain the various options with different companies. They pay no money to the broker, I am guessing they get a fee from the insurance company. Do a google search companies in your state. So much is available online now rather than sit on the phone for an hour. Each state is different it's about which coverage will fit your needs the best.

Luvs, I forgot to mention the cut off date for open enrollment is December 15. So, start your homework now while you have enough time to digest the insurance mess, lol.

Luvs, in another forum here at Healing Well many of the members suggested ehealthinsurance.com to find coverage. I checked out the website & it covers a broad spectrum of different insurance from individual plans to group plan. According to what I am reading on the internet the cut off is December 15 for all, not limited to Medicare. Regardless, you can check that out to verify.
