Hi, BumTum, and welcome! Fibro is a very strange illness and is overlooked a lot. That’s because we have all these many issues and when tests are run they come back making us look like the picture of health! We have even had some women sent to psychiatrists because of this...which is horrible I might add. There are still doctors out there in the Dark Ages when it comes to fibro. They don’t believe it exists! But fibro is recognized by the American Medical Association, the American College of Rheumatology, the National Institutes of Health, the World Health Organization and hospitals like the Cleveland Clinic, the Mayo Clinic, and John’s Hopkins just to name a few. Yes, fibro is a real illness.
Since there is no real test for fibro, you need to have tests run to rule out other illnesses that have many of the same symptoms as fibro...things like lupus and Lyme disease. Your doctor may have already done this but I would ask just to make sure. It’s great that your doctor is putting two and two together for you and now you can receive help for your problems.
I’ve had fibro for almost 34 years. I use ibuprofen with food, Tylenol, magnesium malate, vitamin D3, and a muscle relaxer called Robaxin (methocarbamol) that has made a significant difference in my pain. Just taking vitamin D3 could help because many are deficient in this vitamin and that can cause pain and other issues. Also, what works for one with fibro doesn’t necessarily work for another. It’s more a trial and error thing but you will get suggestions on this forum.
Be sure to read Fibro 101...the first thread on the forum. There is a lot of good info about fibro there and you just might see yourself.
I’m looking forward to getting to know you better. Don’t hesitate to ask questions because we are here to help you. Hope to hear more from you soon.
