Hi and welcome to the forum, Doctrinaut!
I started having IBS way back in 1994. I had numerous tests (nothing specific showed up), but I also have a very strange neuro system, evidently--that's probably my biggest issue. I've seen neurologists and had much testing done with them, too.
Anyway, the gastro doctor ordered a flex sig. They couldn't complete one because of severe spasms. He put me on Elavil, which I was on for years. Evidently, it was to dry out my system, as I had uncontrollable IBS-D.
Fast forward to 2020. My digestive system, which had slowed down a lot over the years from the Elavil, kicked up a bit more, so I saw a different gastro doctor, as the previous one had retired. She gave me a prescript
ion for cholestyramine powder. Maybe you could do a search on it. I found it to help immensely, although there are, of course, some side effects to watch for (good idea to research any prescript
ion or OTC you take, of course). I still take it once in a while. Maybe you could check with your gastro or family doctor and ask about
it, if you also have IBS-D.
I never had any specific type of pain with it. My issues, I think, are more neurological. No internal hemorrhoids showed on the colonoscopy, either.
Also, if you're referring to general pain, I think I can say I get stiffness just about
everywhere. When I get pain, it's usually neuro related. The worst is when it's in my head and even my hair can hurt--ouch! I find heat very helpful for pain, though I know some people prefer something cooling, such as an ice pack with a cloth around it.
Of course, it's always good to bring up any pain issues with your doctor.
I'm not sure there is a way to search for specific topics only in the fibromyalgia section. I only have used the 'general' search bar in the upper right.
Wish you the best!
