Has anyone heard about this? Our Dr stated there isn’t a cure, only anticonvulsants to stop the nerve pain. Too many side effects . If anyone has any experience with this nerve problem, please share your remedies or suggestions?

Yes, I've had Trigeminal Nuralgia - terrible pain! Mine seemed to be triggered by my Lupus, and when my Lupus was treated and was calmer the tirgeminal nerve also calmed down. It's been a while now, but I think my inflammation markers were high, and when I got them down the nerve calmed down. For me, that included taking my Lupus meds, and staying away from sugar and other foods that increased inflammation. I may have even reduced exercise as too much can cause me inflammation. And ice, that helped.
Best wishes,

The treatment for TN varies from person to person & the extent of condition. Some people manage with OTC medicines to some needing surgery. Anticonvulsants can be recommended too. Perhaps you can go to the Cleveland Clinic's website or John Hopkins & read up on the various treatments that are available.
Good luck.

I don’t know a lot about this issue except it’s supposed to be quite painful. It we have had several members dealing with this in the past. Lynwood has been through this and let you know what has helped her. I agree with Straydog about googling this illness because you will learn a lot. One of my favorite sites is the Mayo Clinic.
I see that gabapentin, which is a pain medication, and methocarbamol, which is a muscle relaxer, have helped some and they are not expensive either. I take methocarbamol and it has actually helped a lot for my pain. My dog was in a ton of pain last Friday and the vet put her on gabapentin, methocarbamol, and rimadyl, which is used for pain, and she definitely isn’t in pain now!
Just remember that what works for one doesn’t necessarily work for another. It’s trial and error but there is help out there for you.

I had my first bout of TGN when I turned 40- it was triggered by stress I think- but it was unreal pain- for a couple weeks- shocking pain that even my hair brushing across my cheekbone was nauseating pain! I used gabapentin and narcotic pain meds the first couple weeks then switched to Mobic & gabapentin- the meds helped a lot! Then after a few weeks turned to about 6 weeks it calmed way down then maybe by 8 weeks subsided. But then it came back out of “remission” about 4 years later and same thing- severe pain/ then calmed after 6 weeks but then came back last year after I had covid and it has been a dull ache ever since and never really went a way-the last 18 months- sadly I have researched that it comes back and you get fewer time in between phases of it being dormant. I had an MRI that showed an enlarged upper nerve that is one of the 3 trigeminal nerves that could have been causing it. But nothing remarkable on the MRI. I think it’s stress + inflammation that triggers it for me, so I use turmeric, gabapentin and Mobic and they all help. The other med for it methocarbomal?? Had too many side effects for me personally. Also- anything anti-stress like meditation & 417 hz music and getting enough sleep is huge for it to calm down for me. Good luck!
