Hi Everyone,
My dad is finally scheduled to have all of his testing done to see if he can be put on the transplant list, so that is good news. He still has good and bad days though.
I was wondering if anyone knows how well you have to do on the tests to be placed on the transplant list?
Right now we see the two biggest challenges are going to be the psychiatrist and the stress test. We don't know what he will say about the past drinking, even though we have told him to be honest. We're also concerned about the endoscopy & colonoscopy too, but they are the last tests that he will have.
He's always in a lot of pain, and was taking a lot of pain medications behind my mom's back, but now that she realizes what he was doing, she has hidden the medication and only gives him what he can have. I am not sure how well that is going to work since he often is awake at night and that is when he looks for things. My husband and I feel that he may have been replacing his alcohol addiction with the pain meds, but it's hard to say for sure. He has taken the pain meds for as long as I can remember, so that is not good either.
The hospital says that the stress test takes 5-6 hours to complete, and that it is 2 parts with a break in between. Our biggest concern is that my dad can get exhausted from a short trip to the store, let alone needing to do a really long physical test. Both my husband and my mom have had a similar test done, although it was no where near that long, so we aren't really sure what to expect.
We're prepared that they may not recommend my dad to be placed on the list, so I guess we are cautiously optimistic. Any insights that any of you have would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
