I was diagnosed in 2000 and treated with Peg Interf and Ribo and within 8 months all traces of Hep C were completely gone. I live healthy, eat healty and thought the old Hep C fiasco was done until recently when I went to find out why I couldn't get pregnant. Regardless of a damaged uterus, I had hope that I could at least contract a surrogate. Unfortunately the CDC says "NO". It's been over 7 years as negative,untraceable Hep C they will not allow me to have a child with my egg and my husbands sperm in someone else. I guess the virus could still be there. I've been told by specialists that I may infact be one of those small majority of individuals who are cured from treatment yet I'm still cursed. It's hard enough finding out I can't have a child with my new husband but to know in today's technology I can't use it because of the Curse.

 

I'm just wondering if I'm the only one out there in child bearing years who is infertile and has/had Hep C???? sad

Hello Across_time, and welcome to HealingWell. I am not in child bearing years but I wanted to welcome you. Not sure if anyone else is either but hopefully we have someone who is. But it is great news that you are still untraceable after 7 years.
I know that it is very disappointing to not have a child of your own.
I know it's probably not what you want to hear....but have you considered adoption or foster care? I have 2 natural off spring, but I also have a foster son who is 29 years old. He has his natural mom, but I am the mom who is in his corner and he is my son also. He is as much as part of me as if I gave birth to him. My whole family knows that he is "family" and treats him accordingly. My natural son and daughter introduce him as their little brother. What I am trying to say is family is not necessarily blood related. Family is love. And if I didn't have my foster son there would be a big empty hole in my life.

The CDC has nothing to do with a surrogacy contract. Ask your attys. to get written evidence from one of your Hep specialists that you have been clear of Hep C for 7 years. The decision then would be up to the surrogate if she wishes to continue contract negotiation with you. The CDC makes health recommendations regarding surrogacy, not regulations regarding civil legal contracts.

If you can't find a surrogate in this country the business is booming in 3rd world countries. I'm sure one of your fertility specialists can help direct you to the appropriate resources. If you can already afford these specialists and surrogacy, the 3rd world route is supposed to be a fraction of the cost.

Thank you for the words of encouragement. I've read some of the post and almost felt ashamed to talk about my grief when I've heard so many true tragic stories in here.

I just took the infertility specialists word for what he said about the CDC and Hep C and maybe I should look it up some more and try to find out more info on their website.  Also, maybe I can consider 3rd world country.

Even if you had Hep C it would not spread via the Ova, nor the sperm as in the case with HIV. I'd go to another fertility specialist.

across_time, I agree with Cary F. The CDC can not tell you what you can or cannot do in this case. I would first contact an attorney that deals with surrogates and I would certainly find another infertility Dr. Good luck.
