Well the results says "Hepatitis B Surface" under that it says Antigen confirmation. Then off o the side of "Hepatitis B Surface it says "Borderline" and below that it says, "Hepatitis B surface Antigen was confirmed as present by the neutralization assay." So, who knows. :O) I do have "sick spells" and I do feel "wierd" and whoozy alot and I do have occasion wierd pains in my sides. I'm not as sick as far as fine one day, sick the next as bad as I was for about 2-3 weeks strait every two/three days but yeah I do still have some sick spells.


So, I don't know... I guess the only way to find out for sure is go on to the DR. How bad are the liver biopsy's?
I heard they don't knock you out..... It sounds like it'd be rough? Would I have to miss much work?

Everyone's experience seems to be different regarding biopsies.  Some breeze right through them, while others (like myself) find it really rough.  Some docs do give something to calm you prior to the biopsy.  Mine didn't.  I got a horrible backache, and since they didn't have Darvocet in the short-stay OR, and only morphine, I held out as long as I could...but finally had to ask for a shot.  You stay in the hospital, lying on your right side on a rolled up towel (for pressure to prevent internal bleeding) for a number of hours and then are discharged.  I was able to go to work the next day, but was somewhat tender for a couple of days.  They advise against heavy lifting (anything over 10 lbs.) for several days to a week--again to prevent internal bleeding.

My DR. said he will give me something to make me not remember anything, Not sure what that is but I think I want it...Hope all goes well for you!!! Soonerfan

I have had 2 liver biopsies they hurt like hell, have the doctor put you complteley out you will be fine then

soonersfan, the medication you are talking about is called Versed. It is an amnesiac. They give it to you thru your IV and you are sedated and sleepy. You will remember nothing of the proceedure at all. Connie is right, after the proceedure they take you to a short stay recovery room. Usually they keep you for about 4 hours. It can be longer if you are having any kind of complication such as bleeding or excessive pain, swelling, etc. The site is tender for several days after the proceedure and there are some minor restrictions. Before you leave the recovery room they will go over everything with you and give you a copy of your discharge orders. Versed is absolutely wonderful for it's intended use. I have had it three times before OP surgeries and I can tell you it is great.

I've had 3 biopsies, all with versed & lidocaine for the IV site, it was a piece of cake. It is much simpler & less invasive than I ever imagined. Quick too, over in 30 seconds. As soon as I was able to sit up I was given a turkey sandwich and ginger ale. When I finished I was allowed to leave (with a chaperone/driver) The entire process lasted for me about 2 hours. I went home to bed & was back at work the next day.
