Hi Everyone

Sorry I haven't been posting, Jerry is not doing good.  Actually he's going down hill kinda fast.  He doesn't eat much and sleeps alot.  He got real bad about and I took him to the doctor and he had a severe kidney infection, thankfully.  He got over that and had a few good days and now he's back down again with low grade fever and nausea, very weak and hurts alot.  We go to the oncologist next Wednesday for a CT Scan and lab and doctors visit.  I'm scared to death of what he's going to say.  Keep us in your prayers and I pray for all of you.

Helen, I'm really sorry to hear that.  Have they been able to do anything at all for the cancer?  Please keep us posted.

Hi Helen,

 

Did you ever find out about the Nexevar? Did you read our last thread? Terry has done very well with his treatments and the Nexevar. The cancer is almost undetectable. It's the chirrosis and HCV that is getting him down now.  He will have to take the Nexevar for the rest of his life if he doesn't want the cancer to come back.

I hope you will be able to give us more information soon, if you ever get time. 

I'm so sorry that your husband is going through this after he was lucky enough to get a transplant. Do they say if the transplant in itself may have caused the HCC to spread so fast? I'm sorry Helen, but there are so few, if anyone else, to ask any questions.

 

May God be with you Helen and Jerry, I'll be thinking of you both on Wednesday.

Jerry took the Nexavar for a couple of weeks, then developed a severe kidney infection and they took him off and hadn't put him back on it, so I don't know that it's going to be much of an option.  I guess we'll find out more on Wednesday.  Take care all

Hello everyone

Well the nurse called with the results of the ct scan and the cancer has grown and has spread to the L3 Lumbar, plus a kidney stone has finally shown up again which the doctor says has to go asap, it's causing some blockage.  It showed up before the transplant during the evaluation and was supposed to be took care of then, but a transplant happened first, well now it's showing it's ugly self again.  THe good thing is that if we get rid of it  Jerry might feel better.  Does anyone know if you get ascites with Liver cancer?  He does'nt have cirrohiss so I don't expect the bleeding varices this time ( I hope), but didn't know about the ascites.  The doctor examined him and said his liver is really swollen.  It's not looking real good right now, but it's like I told Jerry, we have to make the best of what time we do have.   Good news-we had a new grandson yesterday morning.  We all need a happy moment and God knew I needed one.  Hope the best for all of you.

Hello Helen,

Congratulations on your new grandson. He will help you through this stressful time.

My husband had liver cancer with cirrhosis. His abdomin got large but he never had to be drained. They were able to keep in under control with lasix and spironolactone.

Hi Helen, I am so sorry to hear that the cancer has spread. Congratulations on the new grandbaby. They can bring some happiness in times of such sadness. You are still in my prayers.

Hi Helen. Just wanted to add my congrats on the new grandbaby. What a wonderful happy moment you recieved during this stressful time. I am so sorry that your husband's cancer has spread. You and your family are in my thougths and prayers.

Helen, I want to add my congratulations to the others on the birth of your new grandson!  A happy moment, for sure.

I'm also very sorry to hear that Jerry's cancer has spread.  The pain he has been feeling is probably from the kidney stone and the L3 involvement.  I really had no pain with my liver cancer, except for an occasional "twinge" in the week or so prior to surgery.  As for ascites, I've had a problem with it all along...both pre and post cancer surgery.  I'm doing well now, after having the last drain for nearly two weeks (it was removed this past Tues.) and continuing with Lasix and Aldactone.

Please keep us updated.

Well Helen,
I don't understand why they took him off of the Nexavar. It is a target drug and it should go after the liver cancer cells anywhere in his body. Terry will take it for the rest of his life, or for as long as we can afford it.
Did they say why they took him off of it?

They took him off because they thought it was causing too serious side effects.  He is back on it now, 2 pill twice aday.  Our next big trauma will be the lithotripsy for the kidney stone, I'm afraid the procedure might send the cancer into a rampage, because it is such a force on the body, but I'm probably worrying for nothing.  I'm pretty sure I'm almost crazy by now anyhow.  I hope Terry gets OK, I know the cirrohsis thing is bad, for some reason we are not having any problems with that now, just the cancer, even tho he still has Hep C.  Thank God for that anyhow.
