When to test for Hepatitis

I was a victim of a sexual assault. I am a heterosexual male. Someone put something in my drink.

I got tested for hepatitis and HIV the day after the assault and now I am told I won't be able to retest again for hepatitis for 9 months.

I have a 3 month HIV negative test result. I have to go back for the 6 month HIV test according to my doctor. Fine.

But I fear that if I have HAV HBV or HCV and don't know it, that it will have an effect on my HIV test result--that I will not have produced enough antibodies by now.

Where can I go to get tested again for hepatitis--they don't do it at PlannedParenthood?

What is the big deal if I want to test for hepatitis again? I just want to cover all my bases. Again, I was raped and I don't know for sure if I was injected with something or not.

It's been 4 month since this happened. They told me I can't test for hepatitis for another 4 months.

I want to get my 6-month HIV test result and have my 6-month hepatitis tests and KNOW that I'm fine. I'm sick of all this testing and being told to wait.

Welcome to the forum thesubterraneans. I am so sorry that you have been through so much and probably will be going through alot for some time. I hope that the person or persons responsible are being convicted. I worry about something like that happening to my own children. I don't know what I would do. I know that I would want them to pay dearly. Torture would be appropriate. It is so terrible that you are having to go through this because of some of the animals in this world.

I wish I could give you some advice on the hepatitis testing. Is it an insurance issue that is the deciding factor? I do know that hepatitis C can take awhile to show up on blood tests. I can understand why you would want to know right away, but sometimes, I don't think it is possible.

Hang in there. I'll be praying that all your tests continue to show negative for HIV or hepatitis.

Thank you. I'm doing pretty good since I saw someone for help. I just want to put these tests behind me.

It's not an insurance issue. I want to get tested again--it will be 6 months post exposure. However since I got tested the day after the incident, I am having to wait even longer.

I want to get tested for HIV and Hepatitis around the same time at the 6 month mark so I don't have to wait any longer. Anybody?

Hi!  In answer to your question, your hepatitis status should have no bearing whatsoever on your HIV status.  They are separate diseases.  I understand your wanting to be cleared ASAP, but it does sometimes take longer to get a definite positive or negative result.  You would be doing yourself a disservice to get it sooner.  Wait the 4 mos. and have it done again.  If you are negative then, you can be pretty sure that you did not contract anything.  It usually takes decades for hep C patients to experience symptoms.  So if you DID contract hepatitis, you can be treated very early in the disease and should do well.  Just have a little patience...then you will know for sure.

I'm going to assume your right.

I was just worried that if I contracted them at the same time, that HIV antibodies wouldn't show up on my test. Is this not a valid concern?

They are separate diseases and separate tests, so I don't know why this would be a concern.

because i dont know if you get them at the same time if you're body needs more time to make antibodies for both of them and if 3 or 6 months is the recommended time.

just forget it im working myself up again and i dont even know if i have anything

Hello thesubterraneans, I know it is tough waiting and not knowing for sure..........try to think positive and not worry so much until you know for certain. And if you took the test too early.......then you would still be worrying about it..........
