Just got back from picking up my husband from another night in the hospital! He got a piece of chicken caught in his esophagus Friday night, he vomited all night and was so miserable, I took him to ER Sat. morning and after doing an x-ray they found that he had total blockage, the GI on call did an endoscopy and pushed the piece through. I have been so careful on the foods I prepare for him, guess I'm going to have to puree it for him now

Oh, Judy! I'm so sorry that happened! At least he was still breathing. Do you know the Heimlich maneuver in case it should happen again? Maybe just cut his food into tiny pieces to be safe.
Hugs,
Hello Judith, wow what a scare! I'm glad it turned out okay. My husband's varices never bled. He had them banded twice before they ruptured...thank God. He used to eat a lot of nuts and seeds but after his banding and finding out what could have happened.....he stopped eating them......boy was I glad.
Take care.......thoughts and prayers......
Sounds like you have my luck. How strange is it to happen that Chicken would get caught in your husbands throat. Thank God they got it out. I really feel for you about the MELD score. I have had MELD score melt downs! After two years my husbands score is a wooping 12!!! I don't even want to ask. My thoughts are with you. Hang in there.

Someone told my hubby that they take you off the list if you get too low on the MELD and he has gone from a 17 to a 10 in a year!!!
You discribed his situation to a tee, there was nothing I could do for him until I got him to the ER and they pushed it through . Taught me a good lesson thats for sure, all his chicken, fish etc. will be cut up in tiny easy to swallow pieces from now on! He scared me to death. Thanks for sharing,
I will never complain again because my husband cuts his food in such small pieces! It takes him so long to eat I usually have to reheat his food twice. I always thought he did it because he is so dry and it hard to swallow chicken. I think I will bring on the smoothies again with protein. I'm glad your husband is OK.
