Hi, Turns, and welcome to the forum.  I deleted your other post as you didn't post anything...just copied someone's else's.  I am glad to hear you are doing okay, even after treatment failed.  I also tried Interferon--two separate rounds--and was taken off both times due to critically low white counts.  This was back in '94, when the only treatment was Interferon by itself. 

I have learned from my hepatologist that a new treatment of interferon/ribavirin/telaprevir will be available early next year (in final trials now) that is especially effective on 1a and 1b and is only taken for 24 weeks.  I'm willing to give it a try.

"Good luck, please remember the water, at least one gallon a day. I never was without water bottles all around me all of the time at home or wherever I went and I believe that saved me some serious complications. For this I am thankful as I have plenty of complications anyway from TX.

Hi, This is Kat, I'am still around, i want know much of anything until 6-26. still haven't had a biopsy just keep hanging in there waiting & wondering? Turn,i read what you wrote, just hang in there. Lot's of water, veggies,fruits, & prayer's and mine are with everone. GOD BLESS;

Kat, have you started treatment yet or are you waiting for a biopsy first?  Give us a little more info, please!

HEP 93, No i haven't had a biopsy yet ,go back doctor june24. thats the baylor one. got aletter from them said i was eligible for consideration for, anti viral therapy. we would dicuss in june. realy do not no what anti viral therapy is,can you help me out on that one? then i have a appoiment with the liver doctor here in august. but in meantime i just eat lots fruits,veggies,lots water, and rest. but i have days i don't want to do anything and days i feel like a pink rabbit. Kat, hep C is a virus.  The current treatment (antiviral therapy) for it is what is commonly known as "the combo," Interferon and Ribavirin (also known as Rebetron.)  It sounds like they want to do the biopsy first to see exactly how damaged your liver is, i.e., your viral load and whether you have cirrhosis, and also the hep C type (likely 1a or 1b.)  All these factors determine your dosage of meds.  There is a more effective therapy becoming available early next year in which they add a 3rd drug, Telaprevir.  This cocktail only has to be taken for 24 weeks, as opposed to 48 wks. for the current treatment.  You might ask about waiting for that.

KAT STARTED HER TREATMENTS 8/9 AND SEEMS TO BE DOIN WELL WITH IT....NOT TOO SICK YET AND JUST TIRED...SHE DOES HER SHOT ONCE AND WEEK AND 5 PILLS A DAY

Kat 57: Hi! I'm new to this website, but, a 7 yr transplt w/hep-c person. I posted a note on 8/9 titled "dealing w/ post transplt depression". Pls read...maybe that'll help with some info. I believe my depression was brought on by interfuron/Peg. U B WELL & gooddae!!!!!! I'm "still here"!!

Westex, thanks for the update on Kat!  We all wish her well.  I think it's a little too soon to tell yet how she is going to do on treatment, but I certainly hope she is able to tolerate it and that treatment will eradicate hep C from her system.

THANKS HEP93 WE DO TOOO....I NOTICED SHE HADNT BEEN ON HERE SO THOUGHT I WOULD LET YA KNOW HOW SHE'S DOIN ON IT....AND YES WE KNOW...SEEMS THE PILLS ARE AFFECTIN HER MORE BUT SHE'S ONLY DONT ONE SHOT SO FAR...BUT SHE GOT SOME GOOD ADVICE FROM YA...AND SHE'S DRINKIN LOTS WATER AND BATHS....
