my mom has severe diahrrea.. is this form the liver? she doesnt eat, so its just clear brown liquid. she has started using her cane. cant walk. she cant do anything. has really took a bad turn this past week. im doing all the cleaning at her house... she is pitiful... this has been the woest 3 weeks. stepfather dying, and now her getting worse. she never complains,but you can tell she is in pain. has bad headaches and her back has started hurting. is this related? i research a lot but there is so much i dont know.. any help would be appreciated..

My first thought would be that the diarrhea is because she's not eating solid food.  But she could also have an intestinal virus.  Is she still drinking alcohol or unable to?  When was the last time she went to a doctor?

You do have to remember to take care of you.  She is dying a slow and miserable death.  You didn't cause it and you can't cure it.  Please remember that.

she says no more doctors. and at this point whats the point? any ideas about the headaches and back problems? yes it is a slow, drawn out miserable death... and i wish i couldcure it but its out of everyones hands now,except the good Lord.. Thanks Connie...

I really don't know, NC. A lot of it is probably nutritional deficit and the body systems just breaking down. Has anyone considered having Hospice come in? The nurses are excellent at pain management.

Nc i share your pain. My mum too when at home suffers greatly.apart from the pain in her hip she gets a lot of severe back pain, her hip pain just overtakes it. Your mum is not taking care of herself,not eating...my mum at home eats very little, in hospital she eats well has real craving for chocolate.At home, its different, she hardly brushes her hair, she can smell of urine, nails caked in filth and dried blood. as she scratches all the time and her arms bleed very easily. She can be so weak that she crawls on her hands and knees to the toilet, it is real pitiful. Right now she is getting built up again only because she is in hospital.her results are improving, only because they are pumping her with high vitamins and taking care of her. But part of me thinks what is the point?it is only prolonging the enevitable i suppose thats terrible for thinking that.
My mum can barely dress herself, does not cook or is not able to do anything. she is a lot soul with your mum lost in her own miserable world. Now it looks as if she might end up living in a home losing her mind...i would say death would be easier for her, as that would not be life for anyone.
so we look on, we be there cause we cannot walk away. But It is so hard and so painful, no one has any answers caus everyone is different, but it overshadows your life.You pray for a miracle if not the end..My thoughts are there with you..

My mom does not have a very steady gait. She fell the other day and walked around for a couple of days than told me her leg hurt I got it xrayed.She is fine but she is alittle weak.

mom went to dr today... weighs 83 lbs. white blood count extremely low. has to go every day now for a b12 shot. this is primary dr ordering this.... not sure about all this. my brother took her but she refused to let him go back to exam room.. this dr is apparently trying to build her up.. but with the drinking she stilll does and the depression shes in now its not gonna work.

She's really frail.  However, B12 or thiamine shots are standard treatments for alcoholics.  Won't do her any harm.  I doubt she'll be willing to go every day, although it's only done for a limited period of time.

they told my brother she will go for 5 days for shots. so this is standard stuff for alcoholics? yesshe isvery frail. pitiful... thanks so much Connie for always being there. you are truly a great lady who ubderstands and always helps me.

Yes, it is.  Do you think she will be willing to go every day for 5 days?  Of course, you are right that it won't do a lot of good when she continues to drink.

Nc at least the doctor is trying hard even if it is to get her out of her home environment away from the misery she has created. Maybe that in itself will do her good. My mum also has had injections of strong vitamins, her white blood cells were so low she has had several platelet transfusions. I think the doctors try anything at times.
Your mum is still in mourning and this will definately add to her depression. It is very hard when you as a carer feel so helpless. You are doing your best.
