shakehead  um was admitted in hospital from friday. tongue was released yesterday.they gave her a blood transfusion so she doing a little better turn her itching has not stopped and legs and tummy are still abit swollen.she also gone a bit pale.they started her with predisone.what is prednisone used for.she taking 6 tabs a day.she also got a heart condition as mentioned before.please if any of you guys know please let me know.also got to make an appoitment with the gi doctor at the hospital as per the hospitals instructions confused

Cindy, prednisone is a steroid that is used to control inflammation.  It's generally prescribed for patients with autoimmune hepatitis (AIH), but your mom has ESLD from alcohol abuse.  So I'm not sure why they are giving her prednisone.  Perhaps they are trying to reduce inflammation in her liver.  Prednisone is a drug with some nasty side effects, the most common being stress fractures and thinning of the bones.  If she is taken off of it, it will need to be tapered down.  See what the GI doc has to say when she sees him.

thanks hep93.will surely check with the gi doc and let you know.have just checked on the internet and it does have nasty side effects.
