Happy I found this site! Have been posting with connie who has been a big help since I've never done thiss before.

I am a 52 yr old wife,mother & Granny with esld diagonsised in Jan. 2009. Needless to say my whole life has changed. Our family has had a horrible last 5 yrs and are grateful that we made it to 2010. My father was bitten by a mosquito in 2003 which  left him paralyised wiyh colonoscopy. He passed in sept2009 with family by his side. One sis had breast cancer & now problems with thyroid gland(tumor beign Thank God) and her husband is battling stage 4 lymphomony. All this in one year. Finding a site with so many different illness will make it handy for us to share info.

I am wondering what type of pain meds people are on. I take Tramadol 50mg 3 x day. Have been needing something stronger & thought someone cold advise me. Pain is right side,ribs & back, and left leg pain are the worst along with headaches. any thoughts?

SD grandma, good to see you posting.  You might want to give your threads a title (Subject.)  I am sorry for the loss of your dad and for your family's health issues recently.   Since the liver filters everything, some doctors are very reluctant to give pain meds to liver patients.  Mine have been okay about it, but I'm not end-stage or on a transplant list, either.  On my own, I have cut my Rx ibuprofen 800 mg to only once in awhile, rather than daily.  You need to speak to your hepatologist about what you can take.  Are your pains from arthritis or, in case of the upper right quadrant, liver disease?  I've found that moist heat helps with my arthritic pains. 

I hope others will give you some input.  The weekend tends to be slow, and this is a 3-day weekend.

I'm embarassed that I haven't been in contact for so long! Things have been crazy over the holiday and now another just around the corner! I did must of my shopping on the internet which I never have before. Since I got sick I'm discovering a whole new world available on a computer screen. Plus when the UPS driver gets here it's like XMas everyday!

Anyway thanks for your response. I have blood test every 6 months and last ones were good! I've gone from 75 lbs to a whooping 91!! cookies are our friends. The dr put me on co2 24/7 and I think that has made a big difference in my appetite. You are right about the pain in the upper right quadrant and the arthitis. I'm told my liver is hard as a rock and the galstones aren't helping any. I'm taking 300mg tramadal er. which helps. I have a question I keep forgeting to ask the dr maybe you someone else knows. My 1st husband had a real problem with cocaine and was diagnosied with Hep C.. It was 35 yrs ago but I  don't remember much more than what a low life unfaithful druggie he was. (that felt really good!). I' m curious if I could have gotten anything thru him by sexual contact? Seems to me I was sick for a while about that and told not to drink, I didn't at that time in my life.  Anyone know?

Thanks again for finding me! I will go over my notes about threads and replys and stay in touch. It's nice to have the support  of everyone! Gotta go The goldendoodle is takind the oranaments of the tree1   God Bless

SDgrandma, it's good to see you posting again and to learn that you have gained some weight.  cookies may be your friend, but they are definitely not mine!  I've gained a lot of weight in the past year, which begain with Christmas cookies last year.  It's hell trying to lose it.

In answer to your hep C question, the chances of contracting the virus through sexual contact are minimal.  It's more possible if the female is on her period when having sex.  To put your mind at ease, the next time you see your doctor ask to be tested for hep B and C and also HIV.

Hi Rick and thanks for the welcome!

My pain has been consisitant for about 2 1/2 years now. It's feels like a really tight rubberband arrround my chest with more pressure on my right side anh mid back. Spleen kicks in when it gets really bad. Sound famaiar to anyone? My dr sometimes makes me feel like I make stuff up, But I haven't had a drink in 2 years and I'm pretty sure of what pain is. She probably is worried about the effects on my liver like connie was saying.

I'm  curious as to how long you've been sick and how it first appeared. Mine has been progressive with a trip to er w/ assites,low bp,vomit,yellow,you know gets everyones attention!

Well anyway its Xmas and I thank God everyday I'm here. I have baking to do for the granbabies and presents to wrap. If I don't log on till after the holidays I wish you all the best pray for all our futures
