Hello!
I hope everyone had a nice Christmas holiday! We were able to bring my Dad back to his home town hospital to continue his IV antibiotics and anti-fungal treatment. They even let us take him home for a few hours Christmas day and the following day.
Dad is definitely improving. He is in a swing-bed/transitional care bed in the local hospital and is receiving his IV antibiotics/anti-fungal medicine, lactalose, rifaximin (sp?). They've limited his fluid intake but his appetite is good. Recieved two units of blood yesterday.
I didnt realize it, but the heart problems they are now seeing are actually caused by the liver disease. He now has hep c, cirhosis, esdl, and portal hypertension. No one can give me any timelines as to life expectancy, but they haven't brought up hospice as the next step.
Now hoping his physical therapy can get him to the place where we can get him home with a care giver. Luckily he has all the medicare and medicaid coverage he can have, so we should be able to have insurance cover most of the costs.
He has bad days and better days. He is still a bit confused about time lines and some times just goes off to never never land in conversation - then "wakes up" and starts talking about a completely different and random conversation.
So far, he is open to the idea of staying in a care facility to get back on his feet and then go home with a caregiver. I'm hopeful he can get to that point.
The saga continues...
