turn  Mum has been doing very well from her last vist to hospital.A endoscope was done for her on the 14/01/2011.Doctors have found that she oeshagtis[not sure the spelling] and gastric ulcers.She is still on lasix, spiractone and lacson as well as isosbinade dinitrate for her heart. They have now put her on omeprazole 20mg which she has taken for the last week or so.

Now she feels light headed and had a runny tummy and feeling cold as well as sweats. Her ascites and edema have not gone down. I have read on the internet that the omeprazole is not good for the liver. Did anyone of you take omeprazole and have similar side effects. Should i stop the omeprazole confused

I have taken omeprazole for 8 years, first because they found a hiatal hernia, later because my anti rejection meds are harsh to my stomach. If your mother has gastric ulcers, the omeprazole should help heal them. I have outstanding doctors and they have never said it was bad for my old, or new liver. Omeprazole takes at least 2 weeks before the effects of it are felt. I don't think it's a good idea to stop the meds, unless you check with the doctor first. One last thing...omeprazole is an over the counter drug.

Cindy, I had some trouble understanding your post because of the misspellings.  Does she have esophageal varices or esophageal ulcers (this could be caused by reflux?)  Remember, there is a Medical Terms thread stickied at the top of our main page.  Re: lacson.  Did you mean Lactulose or Laxit?  And it's isosorbide dinitrate.

Hi there Connie,lacson is the same as lactulose this is what its called in S.A.She does have both but the varices have not acted up recently.Sorry about the spelling, will definately check the medical term thread.

Thanks for the clarification, Cindi. I couldn't find Lacson in my drug book. By S.A. do you mean South America? Not sure where you are geographically.
