I had a question regarding accites

Hi this is Brad checking in again, I had a question regarding my dads accites when he went to the liver doc a week ago they said he was building up fluid again in the upper right part of his lung area and in his belly and legs, though were not to concerned since he was not having a hard time breathing. even with the Tips shunt in now for at least 2 months. So they switched him from Spironolactone to Lasix, and at first he lost 14 lbs within a couple of days and was urinating allot, now he has gained probably about half that weight back though he is still urinating just as often. this does not make any sence to me since he is peeing all the water out. Any insight on this would be greatly apreciated. thanks Brad

Thanks for the reply's I really appreciate them, My dad is currently on Zifaxin 550mg, also he started loosing the weight in the hospital before the Tips and he has gained 10lbs the first time within a couple of days, and so the Dr said anytime someone gains allot of weight so quickly it would be water weight, after they started him on the Lasix he lost 14 lbs in two days then it went back up, and now he his a couple of pounds lighter today from yesterday. the one thing that really confuses me is the Dr basically says the tips is really the last option for trying to control the fluid build up, though I have read on hear that some people have had the tips either worked on or replaced since not working properly, I wonder if he needs to see a radiologist to see how the shunt is working. I also have read on here where they can inject something into the pluerel cavity for fluid build up around the lung which my dad has, basically making it sound like he may have some other options. Though the Dr does not mentioned any. Thanks again for the comments Brad
