Refractory Ascites current treatment

Dear forum users,

I am a graduate student at Stanford, and this summer I am working on a 4 week project during which we are researching refractory ascites topic and trying to understand how we could improve the existing treatments.

We have found many journal articles on the topic, however, we would like to learn the experience that real patients with this condition have to go through. It helps us to develop better understanding of the needs of the patients and it would help us motivate our work overall.

If some of you have time to answer several questions about your treatments, overall experience it would be extremely helpful to us.

My husband has a lot of problems with his swollen stomach. He went in to be drained and the pockets of water were too small and too close to his liver for the procedure to be done. He takes the Lasiks, and it makes him cramp like crazy in his hands and legs, and really doesn't help with his swelling. His feet and ankles are really swollen right now too. We've asked the doctor about it and we try what she says and it doesn't help . . like taking the lasiks. We are very frustrated with this . . we go for evaluation in 3 weeks and we are going to talk to the TP team about what to do about it.
