Moms platelets are 106 which is better than last time. Her other labs are low but not super low ask mom about getting liver panel and she said she not sure she wants to know due to she will have to figure out how to fix it and not sure she can. I think she will get depressed and ruin her good time that she feels she has left.

Pug, what changes would she have to make?  Even with changes, cirrhosis and hep B and C (and other liver diseases) will still cause liver enzymes to rise.

She really doesn't need to except to her self. I think she still dosen't want to accept she is that sick and before some one says something she does all the right things. I think she get scared and not knowing is her way of handling things. She is an older lady. I just try and understand. How you guys deal is your own way. Anyway I was wondering just how wacky does like your cbc or cmp really get.

My red cell count only occasionally gets a little low--usually when I've had surgery.  I really haven't experienced big changes with platelets, etc., so someone else will have to give their input.

Mom has decided to have some blood work done. And feels they well be good I hope so. She gets sad and down. I want her to stay happy. I know it can't always I just feel bad when she gets sad.

Pug, it's good that she is getting blood work done, but with her having liver disease, you can expect her liver enzymes to be elevated.

Well her liver labs were not elevated they were low.AST 25 normal limit ALT 24 which is low ALK PHOS 145 was high and ammonia 36 not bad total bilrubin .08 normal limits. So not bad and she is not looking bad she does still have that bad smell I am not sure if it just her mouth or coming through her skin. She does have some bad teeth.

Pug, that is great news! Actually, the Alk Phos is only 3 points higher than high normal, so not that bad.

If she has some bad teeth, that could cause odor, especially if her gums are involved. Is she planning to have dental work done?

No she said she talked to an oral surgeon and he wouldnt do it in the hospital he wanted to do it in the office and she couldn't do it there due to the von wellebrands. When sugested talking to another dentist she said ok but nothing else was said. I talk to her this morning about it she says her mouth is fine. Hep have you had anyone you took care of ?

Pug, I am the patient...with hep C and cirrhosis and am a liver cancer survivor.  However, I did care for someone years ago with terminal colon cancer...the mother of my S.O. at the time.  It was very difficult.  We were both working full time and had a nurse with her while we worked, but the minute we got home (I was always first as he worked a long distance away, actually in another state), the nurse left immediately.  I never got a break between "jobs."  She finally got so bad that b.f. had to place her in a live-in hospice.  I have never forgotten how emotionally and physically draining the caregiving was--the constant crises and how upset she was at being in that situation.

Well thought I would check in and let you know mom is doing good. I decided she should have a special christmas. I am trying to get her kids to come and spend christmas with her. I did tell my sister and we are not responsible for the other kids to spend time with their mother. They need to spend time with her themselves not us trying to talk them into it. Has anyone ever had the liver labs be below normal? Moms were doctor says they do but everything I read says they are elevated. I have looked and cannot find info. Mom worse thing is still the smell.

Hi, Pug.  It's been awhile.  Good to hear that your mom is stable.  I wouldn't worry about her liver enzymes being low or low normal.  Usually, they will be elevated with liver disease but there are always exceptions.  I actually had normal LFTs at one time earlier this year.  That hasn't happened in 20 yrs.  I don't know if it was a fluke or a lab error, but with the next blood draw they went back to being elevated.

Has your mom been tested for diabetes?  Patients with untreated diabetes also have a mouth odor--slightly sweet.

Well I know this disease is the persons own. But I am wondering the doctor says 1 to 3 years. Grams is doing really good. But I am starting to wonder if they made a mistake. Her labs are still good could she had acsities for a diffrent reason. I know thats not true but I have thought about it. Everything I have read she hasn't had she has only had acsities once no acting strangely. I have not seen anything I have read so I start thinking the docs have made mistake. New labs are A/G 0.7 GLOBULIN 4.6 DIRECT BILLI 0.27 TOTAL BILLI 0.8 AST 26 ALT 27 ALK PHOS 153 its a little high but not bad. ALBUMLIN 3.0 TOTAL PROTEIN 7.6 PLATELET COOUNT was low 83. I just get to thinking maybe she is going to get better. And I know some says you dont and  in my heart I know they dont but with her labs beening good for so long thats got to be something right. In all my years I have not seen a persons labs be this good this long.

Pug, count your (or her) blessings.  Depending on the reason for liver disease, she could get better.  Remind me of the origin of her disease.  I can also tell you that my labs have never reflected how I'm actually doing.  My hep doc goes more by how I'm feeling and realizes the labs are never as high as would be expected, even with liver cancer.  However, my last AFP (alpha fetoprotein) was 19 (quite elevated), though I no longer have cancer,  Why?  Nobody knows. 

Don't get too hung up on the labs.

Did she have a good Christmas?  Is she eating well and feeling well?

I guess if was me a person would want to know why my labs are up or down and I do count my blessings. But the labs our one way of keeping an eye on the liver. I believe I mention my mom is a diabetic,chf, von wellabrands,ra,kidney issuses,nash cirrhosis

Pug, her other diseases could affect the levels of liver enzymes.  As long as they are low, I wouldn't be too concerned.

Hello just an update Mom is doing really good. Not much to report. She is getting around fair and no real big changes she gets puffy than it goes away(mostly when she eats alot of olivies)hahaha She has sneaks on some of her favorite foods. She swells up than is good for a few days. She is living her way and thats the way she should. I do understand what some of you are talking about I am mostly glad I am doing this and got to know her.

Glad to hear that she's doing better.  Olives have tons of salt, so that will definitely make her swell.

Well moms doing ok she is still swelling up.We needed to rised the sprilactone. Her urine is dak than clears by evening. She seems pretty happy we have another doc appointment the 2nd of August unless something goes wrong but she seems ok.Well I will check in again.

Glad to hear she is stable.  The spironolactone may not need to be increased if she would eat less sodium.

Please let us know the results of her doctor appt. on the 2nd.
