Dad getting sicker...please help

ive posted on here a few times asking for general info etc...and you have been wonderful....but im am so scared and upset at the moment and i dont know what to do..

my dad has esld...and within the last two months has had the fluid drained, he has lost nearly 40kg in weight and he seems so frail and tired.

at first when the fluid was drained my dad seemed slightly better and back to his normal self....but....within the last two9 weeks he has started to experience bad pains in his abdomen and is getting more and more irritable. Then last week he started vomiting after eating every meal...

his doctor said this normal due to the liver disease and there is no medication he can give to stop it....he has given him some milk of magnesia and something for constipation....but my dad is in terrible pain and still vomiting.

he has severe back pain and is finding it hard to sit in one position for too long.......he is getting up 3-4 times every night to vomit and feels like he is going to collapse..... and still his doctor says this is to be expected due to the liver disease....

has anyone experienced this....is this the end??????.....or the start of the end?????...he is so frail and sick....

his next appt with the doctor is in January but i seriously dont think he will make it ....physically, how much more can he take????

can anyone help or give some advice, please. x

Hello MJ68, I am so sorry that your dad is so sick. Is he on lactolose? If he's constipated I don't think he's taking it. It does cause diarrhea which helps to eliminate the ammonia in his system that causes him to get cranky and confused. Everytime my husband would take the lactolose the first 6 months he'd have to vomit within minutes of taking it. Finally we found a mixture of lactose and tonic water that he could tolerate enough not to throw it back up. We tried mixing with everything to no avail until the tonic water.

I agree with David. He is absoluted correct in saying your father needs to be seen by a hepatologist. PCP's and even GI doctors are not nearly as knowledgeable as a hepatologist.

unfortunately no, he now has to see another doctor because he has an infection in a tooth..he has been give antibiotics to stop the infection but he needs the tooth taking out but because his blood isnt clotting he has to go to the hospital....it just seems like its one thing after another.

Also ive noticed that his hands or arms are shaking.... sometimes its really bad..he said he just feels like he would rather give up...he must feel really dreadful, he is pain and when he eats or drinks he feels extremely nauseaous or he actually vomits.

He is constipated and is taking milk of magnesia to help him go.

i would really like to find something to help him...or do something to help him....its so frustrating
