Accepted for new drug study

OK - I finally got the call from VA. Mason hospital, and have been accepted for a new study for 1a genotypes using a trial drug Quantum. This is a non Interferon (sp) drug trial for those with high expectancy of failure without the side effects from Interferon. It is a 12-24 week trial, and all done orally - so no injections!
Everybody cross your fingers as I am in 3rd stage fibrosis. I am excited that there may be a better than 35% chance. I will keep everybody up to date on the trial as it goes along.
I go in Monday for more paperwork, and more bloodwork to begin the trial, and will have more for you then.

Good news PH that things are moving along 3 weeks into the treatment. Did the doctors say at what point you would experience side effects, if you were going to? Also glad to know that everything is intact and working well!

I don't know if there is going to be any really bad side effects, but if there are any I will most definitely warn everybody here. This is a second round study. I am so blessed that I got picked for it too - I just don't have $90,000.00 extra lying around.

Hi room, OK - been almost 7 weeks now, and they won't release my viral load count until the end of the study. I guess that too many people quit when they realize that they are taking the placebo. I went to my regular Dr. last Tuesday, and had him run the bloodwork. I should get results back tomorrow. I am hopeful that there is a change in the VL, as the ladies in the study would tell me that my white platelets are way up. What ever that implies. But they seemed excited about it.
The Rib. is starting to really take it's toll on me now as it is difficult to do any type of physical activity without fatigue, so to avoid depression I just keep my eyes on the finish line, and it draws closer every day! Just a viewpoint anyway.
I have no other signs of side effects other than a slight upset stomach similar to a hang over, and I have lived thru enough of those. I will post again as soon as I get my VL count - everybody cross their fingers!

You've got the right attitude. Look to the finish and don't concentrate on minor side effects. That's the best way to get through any kind of therapy. Don't sweat the small stuff. If this works, any ill effects will fade away. Good luck!

OK - just left the Dr.'s office - and the Viral load has gone from 980,000,000 to less than detectable! I still have half of the study to do - until the middle of Feb., so WOOHOOO!

Good for you! I'm hoping your viral load stays negative. Keep in touch, we're rooting for a cure.

This is the best news. I am on the way into bedroom to tell Mike! Keeping fingers, toes, eyes crossed hoping for sustained response!
