Get to the ER, please. Let them decide if it's "nothing" or something that needs taken care of ASAP. People with ESLD often have "bleeds" than need banding. If that is what it is, it's serious. You aren't qualified to decide if it's nothing. (No offense, you just don't have the training.)

Please go Jeff. Better safe than sorry. You have kids...take care of their Dad!! They will need you.

PS Jeff, my hubby has ESLD and his Dr. wants him pooping 3x a day to get rid of all the toxins in his body, because his liver can't filter out the toxins from his blood anymore. It concerns me when you say you only go once a week. I would think any Dr. would be very concerned and get you on meds to go more often to get rid of the toxins. They build up in the brain and some folks with ESLD get Heptic Encephalopathy (HE) which is foggy thinking and poor judgment. If you were my hubby I'd be taking you to the ER...

I'm also concerned that you only have a BM once a week. That's really not enough.

Sandia, you are right. For some, every 2 or 3 days is normal. Going longer than that without a BM is trouble.

Hey all and thanks for the responses. Those did help get my butt to the ER and I was admitted. They did the rectal exam (fun), ultrasound and finally an x-ray. They discovered that my colon is completely full of stool and were surprised that it wasn't more painful. They still don't know where the bleeding is coming from so they are gonna start with a colonoscopy and find the bleeding after. I told them how I only go once a week and they said they need to fix that right away. So now instead of trying to eat something, I have to drink 4000ml of GoLYTELY by 2a.m. to be prepared for tomorrow. Bostonmike, I have told them about the confusion, light headedness, forgetting simple things, etc. and they said I am not in need of lactulose yet. They said when I stand up, wait 10 seconds before I start going. Ziffle, they didn't rule out hemorrhoids but said it was unlikely because the blood was bright red and a lot of it. Does that sound right? So we'll see what tomorrow brings. What a crappy day. Doesn't liver disease know that the NFL playoffs have started?
Thanks again for all your help and for that extra push out the door. I can be a little stubborn at times so it's nice to get a reality check every once in a while. I'm glad I went, guess I just didn't want to hear bad news. It's funny, when I was driving here I retraced my actions for abnormalities and the first thing I did this morning was get on HW. Must be a good habit.

Hello all. Got back from the hospital last night and pretty much slept all day. Had colonoscopy but they had to stop because I wouldn't allow them to go very far. I was under moderate sedation/analgesia so maybe that was the problem. They said I was swinging and pulling things out so they stopped. From what they could see, there was a lot of inflammation on the colon and erosive proctitis. They collected multiple biopsies and said it appears consistent with either a self-limited infectious process or ulcerative proctitis, but they have to study more. They still haven't ruled out hemorrhoids but said usually they are not inflamed or have erosion. He said it could be hemorrhoids, but there is also something else going on. Also there is "Erythematous, friable mucosa was found in the rectum. The abnormal mucosa extended 10 cm from the anal verge." They still have no idea about the bleeding because they couldn't get deep enough, and I was surprised they let me go without knowing. So now they are going to schedule a full colonoscopy with MAC anesthesia. Until they find out what's going on they put me Miralax and Docusate Sodium to help with the other problem. If Pathology shows chronic process, they'll start treating with canasa suppositories.
Ziffle, although I did recommend your tunes, my colon undoubtedly opted for a "One Hit Wonder". Now I'm gonna need a full mixed CD for this next one. Thanks, Jeff

Ziffle, I saw Tiny Tim perform that and other songs on a short cruise from West Palm Beach, FL to Grand Bahama Island around '95. He was actually quite entertaining. I believe he died last year or 2 yrs. ago.
