Hi, Amy! Good to hear that things are moving along. Where is he listed? That sometimes makes a huge difference in how long he will be on the waiting list. Do you know what his MELD score is now?

UPMC - Pittsburgh,  his meld was low as of the last blood work, he was an 18 but the week before he was 21.  I do understand they will vary.  When we were talking to the tp doc, he said that they would rather transplant in the low to mid 20s, so we will see.    I have been updating him on Debbie and Phil and how Phil is progressing, he is impressed, hopefully we will be able to meet Debbie, we are heading back down on 3/23, 2nd endoscope to check the bands that were put in place.  Thanks for the prayers, I keep everyone in mine too, we are all on this journey together in some shape, way or form.

My mom received her transplant in PGH - I firmly believe it was the best care anywhere!  You will find a great support system and very kind caring people from top to bottom - my mom was there 6 months, we met them all!!!  Here are some secrets....if you are in the hospital for more than 14 days visiting, ask for a discount parking pass - then after so long it is free, but you won't need that (fingers crossed).  If you cannot be at the hospital but you would fee better with someone there, ask for a sitter...they sit the night (or day!) with your patient so you know that they are not alone when the nurses cannot be there.  There are a couple of step down units other than the transplant floor after TICU, one is select specialty care - not part of UPMC but within the hospital.  The doctors wanted to keep mom close while we waited, that is a great unit - and her insurance covered her stay.  She was there before and after the transplant.  Great people.

Great news Amy!! I am sooo glad he is listed. I am nothing but impressed with all of the hospitals in Pittsburgh. I hear alot of stories from the people at the hotel that are getting surgeries/transplants at different places . . nothing but great positive vibes from them!!

The Residence Inn Marriot has a hospital rate for their 1 bedroom suites. Also theres a place called Family House that many people stay at. The VA covers our hotel, and they have a van that takes you anywhere within 5 miles you need to go, Residence Inn . .

I don;t really want ot be here when you come back . . but I would love to meet ya'all!!
