So after not falling asleep til 1:30 am last night, I got a call at 2:30 am from the transplant center. They tried my mom first but she didn't answer so they called me. They old me that a liver had come available fo rmy mom, but that someone had a higher meld score that had bumped my mom down to #2 on the waiting list. They were calling because they could not get a hold of the first person on the list. They told me that they needed to confirm that we could come in and I said yes. She told me that they had to try to get a hold of the first person for another 30-45 minutes and then they would call me back and let me know if the liver would go to my mom or not. I asked her if I should head to my mom shouse and she said she wouldn't know for 30ish minutes. I decided to not waste time and got up and got dressed and headed to my moms. Of course I called my mom and told her what was going on. I got about
10 minutes from my moms place when the transplant office called and said they were able to get a hold of the first person and the liver would not be going to my mom. Shoot!
So, we have been sitting here waiting thinking that my mom was number one on the wait list, when in fact someone had bumped her down. I tell ya, they really need to tell you when you are not number one anymore. The whole mentality changes when you go from number 2 to number 1.
Anyhow, what a rollercoaster. It was like ok here we go it's go time.......but then it hits you that someone just lost their life and their family is grieving for them. It is a weird feeling of excitement, thankfulness, and grief at the exact same time.
Just thought I'd share with you all.
