Yes , we are only mere mortals and all things do pass on with time . Some are here but a moment and others live a bit longer . Honestly who really wants to live forever in our current state of being ?

Now just say there is a after life and we become infinite souls ( No body to wither ) , that would be a different story entirely but still with slight draw backs . No sex , no food , no emotion , no verbal communication ............. Yep !!! No body , no need for all those trivial things right . Kinda makes you wonder if the non living are bored ( oxymoron ) . Could it be possible the living are their source of entertainment , That could explain a lot of stuff huh ?

Anyhow , Yes death does stink but life goes on here . Surely as one dies another is born and the cycle begins anew and hopefully some of the wisdom , compassion and laughter will be passed along to another generation or a stranger ( Not really thinking of you when I made that last statement David ) .

Crap . Was that statement made while you were " Meditating " to The Doors album ? If so , Enjoy and forget the above meandering .

It is estimated by science that life as we know it.....

"is only possible for one thousandth of a billion billion billionth, billion billion billionth, billion billion billionth of a percent" of the lifespan of the universe.

And of that barely conceivable fraction, a human life occupies only a tiny space.

It seems to me that we are as small in space as we are insignificant in time. Still - life means a lot though.

I missed your post Ziffle i'm sorry.

I think people are so preoccupied with life elsewhere for many reasons - some its religion, some to prove religion wrong maybe, just a fascination for me - if they found it in any form - not sure what I would think because I have come to almost expect it. How about you (if you wonder about it).

Prof Brian Cox presented the facts on NatG "Wonders of the Universe". He works at CERN but also seems to have become a science celeb on TV. If the numbers are correct, they do not indicate a chance for life developing (I saw it as kind of "well if it is possible for life to start then it will do it in the time available anyway because its a lot more time than is required") - but a period of life surviving. It may be misleading on reflection - that tiny fraction may represent a trillion trillion years!
