No one has mentioned this procedure so this hospital may not be doing it. I will mention it today and see what the dr has to say.

Just a quick update on Janie....she has had 4 units of blood this week, we expect drain for gall bladder to be put in by radiologist today or tomorrow, cultures clear stopping antibiotics today. Her MELD score yesterday was 26, liver dr said he would wait a few days to make sure infection is clear before reactivating her with UNOS, still in ICU. He says to expect transplant between 26 snd 28 with her blood type.

MRI shows gall bladder is completely stopped up by stone and is not draining.

Please keep her in your prayers she is a very sick lady

She's having trouble waking up today, dr has ordered lactalose every hr to hopefully clear her mind. They are going to start giving her protein in picc line, nurse says they may have to put feeding tube through her nose to bypass her gall bladder and pancreas. She appears to have declined over night. Liver dr wants transplant surgeon to evaluate her before putting in drain but he hasn't seen her yet today. I will keep you updated.

The transplant surgeon just left. His recommendation is to not put in the drain as he believes the risk is too great. He wants to move her up to the transplant floor and wait for one more clear culture so she can be re-activated as a status 1. Her MELD score is now 30.

One of the ICU nurses told me they may have to put a feeding through her nose directly into her small intestine, thus bypassing her gall bladder and pancreas. It seems everything has suddenly begun to spiraled out of control today. All we can do now is hope she can get a transplant.

I'm doing as well as can be expected, have much family support, just hard to get to sleep at night worrying about her. I will make it however this turns out, just have to rely on faith with the man above as it is out of my hands.

Thanks for keeping us updated, Charlie. Glad to hear you got some relief so you could sleep. Janie is a lucky lady--I've never seen a husband so devoted to his wife. You're a treasure.

Results from cultures from the 28th show she has vancomycin resistant bacteria in her blood. Unfortunately they have been treating her with vancomycin. A new antibiotic is being started but will not know if it is working for 4-5 days. Currently she is not a surgical candidate. Her MELD score is now 33, hoping for the best but preparing for the worst. Sadly today is her birthday

I've. been keeping up with your post surgical blog, I can't imagine the misery you have endured for the past few months. Hopefully it will heal soon.

I've got my fingers crossed the new drug will stop Janie's infection, just hope she can hang on long enough to get back on the list. Her liver dr told us today that with a MELD score as high as hers, things could go south very quickly, but stressed that her vitals are stable at the present.
