I'm working at the Florida polls today as it is ourstate and local primary

I can't use my phone but on breaks

But I'll peek at HW for your news when it's quiet. Thinking of Janie all the time

Janie is slowly waking up this morning. She is opening her eyes on command and wiggling her toes. Haven't see any dr as yet but nurse says her hemoglobin remains at 8.8 with no new blood. Small steps....

The kidney dr just left says she is loosing ground on fluid retention, still retaining fluid in her tissue and lungs. He is going to up her diuretic dose to the maximum, that we should see much more urine output in the next few hrs. If her kidney function starts to decline, then temporary dialysis will have to be on the table. Says she will not be able to be extubated as long as fluid remains in her lungs. He says dialysis will get fluid off but risks include bleeding and infection.

Thank you for taking time to update us.  I think about Janie everyday and am hoping for her to get to a transplant and start a new life. 

You are a rockstar!  I'm sure Janie's strength comes from you and her support system.  So you are all doing something right in helping her fight.

Well, I'm going to focus on the good news. She seems to be under very good care, so I know they will do their best to take care of her kidneys and fluid retention.

I read your post everyday and I can totally relate to what you are going thru I was in your shoes 4 months ago. Unfortunately my husband did not make it but do not give up hope. Lots of us here are praying for you and Janie.

Good morning,

Janie had four bloody stools last night and they had to give her two units of blood. Her liver dr came in this morning and said she believes blood came from ulcers she saw in her esophagus and not her stomach since her BP has remained stable, she will check her hemoglobin again in about an hr. kidney dr came just after she left and said Janie has not gained any fluid since he started the lasix drip yesterday and would have gained ground if she hadn't received blood products. He will consult with liver and lung dr this morning and they will make decision on dialysis. They all say they haven't given up on her yet.

She opened her eyes for about a minute this morning while I talked with her so I believe she understands what is going on around her.

Please keep her in your prayers

We have had numerous developments today. Her kidney dr increased the lasix drip from 20mg pet hr to 40. She is making more urine but her kidneys are not filtering toxins. Her normal BUN should be below 20, however her's is 129 and rising. The pulmonary dr says she feels sure Janie will have to go onto dialysis soon. They are also planning a Trach to be put in no later than next Monday. I don't know what her INR is but her Creatine is 2.1 and her bilirubin is 17, needless to say she is a very sick lady.

The good news is they are stopping the antibiotic in the morning and will do the final culture Monday morning. If it is clear and she is still alive she should be at the top of the list if they re-activate her. Her hemoglobin and vitals have remained stable today and she has not had another bleed. My fear is she will be too sick to survive a transplant and will not be reactivated.

She has been opening her eyes today with much coaxing but will not move either hand. pulmonary dr said high BUN can also HE which she probably has.
