Alcoholic hepatitis, need info

Hi, Iceman, and welcome to the forum. It takes time and a period of being alcohol free before your jaundice disappears. It will fade gradually. The most important thing you can do for your liver is to NOT DRINK ALCOHOL. If your bili was that high, then obviously it is not going to normalize overnight.

If you have difficulty staying stopped (from drinking) go to AA. Meanwhile, eat sweets if you find yourself craving alcohol. Sugar will help with that.

You might want to read the info at the top of the page, in the folder entitled Hepatitis Resources (notice correct spelling of hepatitis.) It contains info about all kinds of liver disease.

It would also be best to avoid red meat.

Welcome to Healing Well. Connie gave you good advice. NO ALCOHOL. Normal high bilirubin is about 1.2...so you are about 4 times normal. As Connie said, it will go down slowly over time. If you are not feeling well, or are nervous and concerned, go back to your doctor. Bring a list of all your questions and concerns and have the doctor go through the list with you.

Hi Iceman, I have chronic liver disease alcohol induced my consultant my blood levels were 620 if bilirubin level of 4.4 is high then maybe mine was 6.2 I am not to sure they are both same count. I was very jaundiced my eyes extremely yellow, my stomac was hugh & was 13 stone, I was in hospital for 3 weeks and remained yellow 3/4 months. Self detox can be dangerous but that depends on how much you drank, have you been checked to see if you are deficient in essentials vitamins etc, alcohol destroys all of these, I also needed water tablets and was put on an antidepressant which I thought I didn't need, I couldn't have been more wrong. Our moderator says about sugar I had a craving for sweet things I did deteriate when I came home I went to 7 and 1/2 stone my muscle waste was awfull, I drank lots of lucozade fizzy jellies lolli-ices. This all began in April and believe me it a very slow progress, I ate & still do lots of fruit, I have to have lactulose still, along with my meds. Iam still quite weak & need to watch for cutting myself as your blood thins out too. If you have not been told if you need meds please go back & ask more questions, I also have alcohol hepatitis have you been cleared of that?. I didn't continue with councilling it's very good for some people, not me. Iam seven months abstenant and will remain so although I don't take this for granted one day at a time is all you need to think about, I am very annoyed with myself about my ignorance towards the danger/addiction this vile drug causes. When I am well I intend to let my voice/ opinions be known. I have also been taking photos of my self when I came home from hospital wish I had some earlier ones, be proud of yourself everyday & don't forget to give yourself a pat on the pack. Please do not touch alcohol watch out for cakes choccies around this time of year they may contain alcohol, you will get over this be a better & healthier person the live can repair but it will only take so much abuse, good luck for the future don't be afraid to talk about it, you will be surprised that someone you talk has family friends loved ones in our situation. Would like to know how you get on,

Thanks for your info. I am in a city called Liverpool, England, so I understand that weights and some terminology may differ. Sounds like you are quite knowledgeable, all a bit confusing for me. I think I will just stick with experiences without all the "jargon." ;)
