My liver never decompensated. I didn't have jaundice or HE. But the tumor was so aggressive, THAT was the reason for transplant. So don't wish for his liver to get worse. Transplant is more successful if the patient is not at death's door.

Barbara, I'm hoping what you are hoping...that he gets a liver soon. There are so many difficult stories on this site....I'm so glad I didn't try to do this a long way from home, like Brian is trying to coordinate. Now he has to ship her off and follow with the child later on...leaving his poor wife alone for a while. Lots of people to pray for today! Hugs, Carol

Hi All

I have come to the conclusion that my computer has issues with Healing Well so I'm on Dennis' I've had everything known to man done to that thing and it still locks up everytime i try to post here.
So all that aside, here is the latest after the Oncologist appointment. His MELD score is offically 25 and he's still on the list. The set my mind at ease some he said under the criteria that UNOS uses that only one of the tumors is considered active the rest are suspicious for cancer at this time. So that is a big plus. That gives Dennis a much bigger window. He is going to start Dennis on Nexavar in hopes to slow down the progression. He warned Dennis of the common side effects more fatiuge and a change in the taste of things. And possibly hair loss (Dennis said then he can be hip, slick, and cool like the everyone else and he won't have to shave his head LOL) the biggest risk is bleeding and with Dennis' platelets being 72 they're going to have to watch him really close. He's going to start him on half the dose to see how he dose on it and, it will have some negitive impact on his liver function so he wants to watch him very close. He told us that if Dennis responds well that he will increase the dose and lastly that it will only work for a little while.
He actully had a very good day yesterday and today. We have a big day planned for tomorrow, going to a NA Convention for the day. I've made arrangements with one of our friends that is is staying for the whole weekend that when Dennis needs a nap he can borrow their room. To bad we can't have a HW convention.

Yes, please let us know how he does on the Nexavar. I hope the sides won't be too awful. I've attended 6 AA conventions in different cities (and one here in my city) and an NA convention here in town. They are always such a blast--especially with the great speakers in the evening. Enjoy! Great that Den can borrow a room to nap in.

Difficult news after all he's been through...and YOU.

How is he doing with this news?

He was prettty sick when you brought him to the ER, have they got him stable again?

Carol, they got his pain under control, but his fever is climbing again 102. When I told him the news yesterday his response was "I'm done it's over" today he's been real quiet. Angie, you are so right this stings.

Hey...Your right....it's not over til it's over. Doc's been telling my hubby his time is very limited. Well...that was 2 years ago, when he was only supposed to have 6 months...and he is out of nursing home, home with me, today weather is nice so he is outside watering horses.
He has his ups and downs (yesterday he was swelled up like a balloon...today not.) Who the hell knows what is store for any of us!!
A year ago a younger women in our town that was in art club with me, expressed how sorry she was for me that I was going to lose my husband. Well last week she just buried her husband, who wasn't sick until 30 days ago and he's gone, my husband it not. Who knows?
YESTERDAY IS HISTORY, TOMORROW IS A MYSTERY.
So, let me know...nothing is sure one way or another.

Hi Everybody,

Just wanted to update you again. Dennis had the biopsy yesterday, should have results tomorrow or the next day. He's still in the hospital. They had him on Dilaudid and Oxy, that combination was working good for him except he broke out in a rash so they took him off the Oxy and stated giving him both oral and by mouth, 1mg 2mg. This wasn't enough so for two days he suffered. he's not on the liver floor he;s in the over flow so they aren't monitering him like they should. the RN's charge nurse both agreed he has been under medicated. To top all this off he started having hicups night before last round the clock when I mentioned it to the doctors they said they can't do anything about hicups. After the procedure it was worse. And of course this made his pain worse. I was so frustrated I went online and learned that hicups are connected to liver cancer and there is something there IS a medication called baclofen. I was livid and relieved. Anyway he got it and it helped with the hicups, still having issues with pain but not as bad now he is so medicated he can't get out of bed. He's on oxygen now his ammonia level is up to 140.
I just talked to one of the doctors pain amnagement is coming and the pathology report should be in tomorrow. This part of this journey is new to me so I'm a little freaked out. Our Pastor came and prayed with us tonight. Just holding on to hope. We are surrounded by so much love.

I just want to update you Dennis' pathology report came back positive for cancer, and he was removed from the transplant list. He he still in the hospital I'm hoping to take him home tomorrow.

I'll give you more detail tomorrow, I'm heart broken and emotionaly wiped out.

 Barbra , I hope you and Dennis make the best of this awful situation . I know everything seems to be crashing around you guys heads but this ain't over till it's over . You know Connie , David and others have overcome some horrific battles to move on to the next level . Keep your heads up and plug along the best you can .
