Thinking about you. It was hard when my Dad and I picked up mom's ashes. Dad has chosen to keep them at home, as he finds it comforting.

Angie, I know that must have been difficult to pick up Phil's ashes. Do you have any plans for them?

I hope that your animals will be safe from the mountain lion.

You might not want to look at the cremains, they aren't light, fluffy ashes. I have spread cremains for 3 members of my family and a friend. My friend wanted his "ashes" dispersed in the ocean, which is my wish as well.

Thinking of you today Angie. David is right about the cremated remains, what a funny word cremains is. I was quite surprised at the weight of that box. Craig was so small at the end, but I guess the bones don't change. Anyway, until his final 'disposition" this summer, I have him at the cabin up on the center beam overlooking his beautiful view of the mountains. I like to think of him there.

Feel better about having cremains at home with us now. Mariel52..I like the idea that they are somewhere that faces the outdoors, so will do that for now. It is comforting now to have them here with I and the critters. The animals stick so close to me, always someone wants on my lap, on the computer keyboard, on the tv, on the book or paper I am trying to read. They do seem to know I need comforted.

I need to sort things out this weekend and send the things he wanted sent to his other family members. No pressure this weekend. I can just relax and listen to music and putter around the ranch. My brother and cousin checked on me today to make sure I was okay. Was good of them.

No sign of the Mountain Lion. (Swine beware!!) Thank goodness. May the weekend be easy you all caregivers and your ill loved ones.

Do not run from a mountain lion. Running may stimulate a mountain lion’s instinct to chase.

Stand and face the animal. Make eye contact.

Appear larger by raising your arms or opening your jacket if you are wearing one. Throw stones, branches, or whatever you can reach without crouching or turning your back. Wave your arms slowly. The idea is to convince the lion that you are not easy prey and that you may be a danger to it.

Maintain eye contact and slowly back away toward a building, vehicle, or busy area.
Protect small children so they won’t panic and run.

Fight back if attacked. Many potential victims have fought back successfully with rocks, sticks, caps, jackets, garden tools, their bare hands, and even mountain bikes. Since a mountain lion usually tries to bite the head or neck, try to remain standing and face the animal.

Hope you never need this Angie :)

Glad that you are hanging in there and will be having a no pressure weekend. Also that you have all the critters with you.
My Dad finds great comfort having my Mom's ashes at home. My son asked him why would he inter the ashes so that when he wanted to see grandma he would have to get in the car and drive...when if her cremains were at home he could see her whenever he wanted. Dad took that to heart and me and my brothers like it too.
Be gentle with yourself this weekend.

Angie1953, I am so very sorry for your loss. I read other posts here but I don't always reply. I apologize for being so caught up in getting answers that I have overlooked so much. I admire your great strength. I can only hope gain the strength you have shown.

Thank you all. I am ready to change my thread. I don't feel like I should post anymore under "My husband passed away". I do feel strange moving back to Caregiver's thread, as technically I am not a caregiver anymore, but seems the most appropriate for now.

Today feels like Spring. Snow melting and songbirds are singing.
No sign of Mtn Lion, but thanks for the tips on surviving an encounter with one.

(PS. My husband did prepare me for how to handle Big Cat encounters, as he had trained so many tigers and lions and had lots of respect for the big felines. I do carry my pitchfork with me everywhere outside, until we know for sure Mtn Lion isn't around.)

May the weekend be gentle with everyone.

Angie, don't feel that you shouldn't post in Caregivers. You have a great amount of knowledge to share with newcomers and support for the newbies.

OK Connie. Thanks...will be there...hurts to see so many newbie caregivers and those with cirrhosis struggling with this disease. Hope you are doing okay today.

Okay...you are right. One step at a time. This has been a quiet day and a chance to do some of the little things around the house that have been on my "round tuit" list.

Thankful today for National Public Radio...feels like a friend. Hubby and I always listened most of the weekend.

Dearest Angie,

As a newbie, I really like those who have walked all the way down the path of caregiving. There is a grace you and others have that I need to develop. Also, an honesty about the raw feelings of every aspect of caregiving.  As much as I hope it is not a lesson I need to learn soon, reality tells me that any day can take that final turn. I also understand if you one day move away from posting all together. I am not posting much right now but I read each day. I appreciate all of you, your journey's...whether from the side of the one dealing with illness....or the caregiver.  I hope tonight brings you peace. Hugs, themiz

this week in my addiction counseling class I had to do a paper on interventions for persons with Hep C and the focus was on two needs. Because of my experiences with Mike, I told those counselors that they need to be able to educate newly infected persons with Hep C about the disease's course and also be ready to help people who are "on the other side of no treatment" take that final journey.

I find Mike almost every day in my thoughts and actions. Walking with him on his final journey changed me so much. Deep breaths and one step at a time. Even three years later I need to do that from time to time. His anniversary is coming up. I'm not looking forward to it and since I moved I can't go talk to him. Last summer I drove down there frequently. Now I will just talk to him on walks. It helps. My prayers continue to be with you daily.  Sandia

Hi Angie hope you a keeping strong, I too have been in the background but gegging in now & again. I am sometimes amazed when I read about u guys, being in England and living in a city it sound really strange when I hear you talk of lions the biggest we got to that roaming around is fox. I have not heard the word cremains before although it obvious what it means, never heard of critters either take care

In NE, a critter is an animal you are responsible to feed. As in, "I have 40 critters." Very seldom do we have Mountian Lions here. But Sunday a bald eagle glided over my place checking out my rooster (critter). Rooster ran for cover. Never saw him look up, but he knew there was trouble on the wing.

I have heard about cremains, but when I mentioned "ashes" to the funeral director, he politely corrected me..."cremains", he said.

Sue and Connie...interesting how we are from different places and have different lives...yet all drawn together over this disease. Thanks for sharing Sue...sometimes I feel very isolated in my little world and then you share something from "across the pond". :) Have a nice night. I have a salmon filet and a glass of oJ for dinner. Mmmmmm. Kitties are out of luck...I had to lock them out while I eat this salmon (farm raised in Chilie...he's had quite a trip before making it to my oven). Later
