3-Day Evaulation is scheduled

Just got my hubby's 3-day evaluation scheduled today at UCLA for next month.  Booked the flight, arranged for rides and company for my son and puppy while we are gone.  It's wierd, I knew this is what we were waiting for and was the next step, but since that phone call I have been a complete basket case.

Jeff is doing okay.  Still really lethargica dn sleeps alot and has that left shoulder pain that drives him crazy.  He went in for a MRI this morning for the shoulder and they told him it was too soon after the TIPS procedure, so now he doesn't go in untill next month right before we leave.  Good news is that he has no HE, so hopefully he will slowly feel better.  He didn't go to work yesterday, but other than that, he has been able to go to work each day, just not as early and as long as usual.  He has good days and bad days I guess.

Can someone tell me what are the typical tests they do during the 3-day evalualtion?

Good news that the eval is scheduled. Connie, one of our moderators, hep93, posted all the details of her evaluation. You could page back several pages and read her experience. Or perhaps she can bump it up for you. Best of luck.

Suffice it to say they will be looking at your specialists in all these areas: heart, lung, infectious diseases, nutrition, gastro, kidney, psychology, social work, endocrinology (usually pred-induced diabetes post tp), etc.

Once eval is complete, the team or panel will meet (happens once a week) to decide whether to deny, accept, or to accept with deferral. The first meeting my brother was accepted for listing but with a deferral b/c he had recently had the shingles vaccine because he never had chicken pox, and they don't tp within at least 2 weeks of vaccine (in brother's case, at least). So when the 2 weeks was over, he was automatically listed.

Lena, good to hear that the eval. has been scheduled. Mayo's tests are much more thorough than those at other centers. Mae gave you a general idea of what to expect. My evaluation took about 6 weeks for all the various appts. So in 3 days they will likely perform the most important ones.

Mae be here:  Thank you so much for that information, yes it does help and give me an idea of what to expect.

Connie:  They did tell me that they cn sometimes take longer but being that we are coming from out of town, they are packing it in in hopes of getting it all done.  Being that Jeff is still working, I am glad they are doing that so life can resume after that for as long as it can anyway.  Also, I did not see a link on your reply :)

Pam:  Thank you for that I will check it out right now!!! 

We will start here and see how it goes.  If I don't like where it's going I will follow all of your advise and see about getting him to one of the Mayo clinics.  But, I guess this is a starting point and since he is not terribly ill yet, I think we have a little time to get that figured out.

Thanks for all your help and I will let you know how it goes.  His eval is the third week in April.
