Amy, this is a difficult and individual question...how long to wait to return to work...
The doc says he is medically cleared. But how IS he?
I can't imagine Mike returning to work as he is so gosh darn tired all the time. He is 63, almost 2 years post transplant. He does a his own personal things, looks after the trash and does the grocery shopping again....and likes to cook dinner on the days he feels well. He reads a LOT.
But a trip to the grocery store nets a NAP. And a walk around the block nets a nap. And he is in bed for the night at 8:30 and not up until 10 hours later. He may even take 2 naps in a day instead of one.
So unless an employer allows for nappie time...where could he work?
His mental status is way better than before transplant (his HE was awful)...but not like during his working years. He did computer consulting...working at a help desk at a large insurance company. Now he fiddles with our computers and network...but not like before....he hasn't the patience or analytical skills that he had before.
It would be great if he could earn some money, maybe get some regular health insurance.
Maybe it is different because Mike's Hep C is so active again...and that gives him the fog that started all this.
If your hubby thinks he can work all day at the tasks he once did...bless him and send him off to find a new job. If it was a physical job, you have to check with the TP coordinator and see if he has physiclal limitations.
Best to you.
Carol
